Outlook search problem after update

Hello, after the last Outlook update, when most users do a search, I get "There are problems retrieving the results from the server..." "Try searching on the cmputer instead"

What can I do?

Is it another bug like that arrived in 2020?

I have the problem with various types of outlook versions. The version is: Microsoft® Outlook® 2019 MSO (Version 2304 Build 16.0.16327.20200) 64-bit The links are with Exchange. We have Exchange onpremise 2019 updated to CU13

    Hi @radin.mattia ,

In case it’s an issue with any transient backend service incident, I’d suggest trying to restart Outlook application and see if there’s any difference.

If the issue persists, based on my experience, you could refer to the blog below to try to disable FAST search through the registry.

How Outlook 2016 utilizes Exchange Server 2016 FAST Search - Microsoft Community Hub

Important: Follow the steps in this section carefully. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you modify it, back up the registry for restoration in case problems occur.

    Some info that might help:

Assuming FAST Search is not disabled by policy, Outlook initially submits a query to Exchange on-premises using FAST Search. If FAST Search results are returned in a timely manner (about 5 seconds), these are displayed. But, if the FAST Search timeout is reached before a server response, then a message indicating that We're having trouble fetching results from the server..., along with the link "Let's look on your computer instead." If you click this link, then WDS search results are displayed.

    Best regards,

    Shaofan Lv

Just updated to CU13/June SU and some users are experiencing the same issue - get message "We're having trouble fetching results from the server..." when doing a search. Has there been any update from MS on this issue?

    Thanks

Same issue here for some users...

Happened after update to CU13, so it definately broke something...

Search in Webmail does still work, so no exchange server problem as far as i can tell (indexing is ok).

I just had a call with support they put me on the insider release ring

The update coming to the main release ring in a month has search fully working again.

Its funny how the selling point of a subscription is the regular updates, and its the updates that casue the issues.

It would probably be fine if 1st line support know that a security vulnerability was found with the locally stored index used for search, thats why an update removed some search functionality, but nothing is perfect.
