outlook failure to communicate with yahoo server

Since the last update (Office 365), my outlook has become an exercise in frustration. Constant requests to provide passwords, won't update my yahoo accounts, get a 0x800CCC0E error code, have uninstalled and reinstalled Office 365 numerous times, yahoo unable to generate app password, Outlook appears to work but as soon as a shut down happens, it stops working and communication errors stop anything from updating.

I've booted/rebooted numerous times, I've uninstalled/reinstalled 365, I've deleted all outlook profiles and created new ones multiple times, I've checked with my ISP and they say it's a microsoft problem, I've shut off firewall but no help.

Everything on the yahoo email address works fine on the web and on my Apple phone. The problem is on both my desktop and laptop - identical issues. Desktop is Windows 11, Laptop is Windows 10. All softwares are the latest version.

    Hi @Neena-4150 ,

Looks like your issue is a known issue and it is fixed, the Outlook Team added OAuth support for Yahoo IMAP accounts starting with build 16308.10000 in the Office Beta Channel and Current Channel (Preview). As of 8/2/23 Yahoo OAuth is now at 100% Current Channel.  It's not at Monthly Enterprise Channel or Semi-Annual Channel yet.

If you are on channels such as Monthly Enterprise Channel or Semi-Annual Channel and you want to use Yahoo OAuth, you can switch to Current Channel using the guidance here, Change the Microsoft 365 Apps update channel for devices in your organization.

    Hello everyone!

Many thanks to Brian Tillman for pointing out that Yahoo (also ATT.net email) requires the use of a secure mail key!! NOT YOUR EMAIL PASSWORD!!!

I worked hours trying to figure out connectivity issues with email on my new computer and eventually ran across Brian's advice:

AT&T requires an app password as well (they call it a "Secure Mail Key") because they use Yahoo for their mail service. See https://www.att.com/support/article/email-support/KM1240308/ This link points to a web site Microsoft doesn't own, but it appears to be safe, with no unwanted apps. However, it most likely uses cookies and may contain ads.

    THANK YOU BRIAN!!
