What are the things need to know about the azure networking ?

Hi,

I would like to know, as a network engineer and Azure admin, what are the Azure networking things I need to know to connect on-prem to Azure or migrate on-prem to Azure. I want a list of all the Azure networking items that we need to know as an Azure network engineer, not only the on-prem to Azure scenarios.

Could you please help and provide me the list of all the azure networking items as soon as possible? It will be very helpful for me.

thanks for the response! So I have gone through the document and know that vnet is first requirement. so can you please answer the below questions?

b. How and what are the things keep in mind during Address space planning and IP addressing?

c. Network Security Groups (NSGs) for traffic filtering.

d. Route tables for controlling traffic flow.

Hi,

a. How to Subnet design

Depending on your requirement, you should split the VNET into multiple subnets.

Be mindful of services that may be needed in the future that can only be deployed into a subnet of specific size

So, make sure you are subnetting the Virtual Network in a way that future subnets can be added for the services you might need

b. How and what are the things keep in mind during Address space planning and IP addressing?

Ensure nonoverlapping address spaces. Make sure your virtual network address space (CIDR block) doesn't overlap with your organization's other network ranges.

Your subnets shouldn't cover the entire address space of the virtual network. Plan ahead and reserve some address space for the future.

It's recommended you have fewer large virtual networks rather than multiple small virtual networks to prevent management overhead.

c. Network Security Groups (NSGs) for traffic filtering

NSGs are stateful in Azure

InBound traffic : For inbound traffic, Azure processes the rules in a network security group associated to a subnet first, if there's one, and then the rules in a network security group associated to the network interface, if there's one. This process includes intra-subnet traffic as well

Outbound traffic : For outbound traffic, Azure processes the rules in a network security group associated to a network interface first, if there's one, and then the rules in a network security group associated to the subnet, if there's one. This process includes intra-subnet traffic as well.

You can easily view the aggregate rules applied to a network interface by viewing the effective security rules for a network interface.

You can use the IP flow verify capability in Azure Network Watcher to determine whether communication is allowed to or from a network interface.

d. Route tables for controlling traffic flow

How Azure selects a route:

When outbound traffic is sent from a subnet, Azure selects a route based on the destination IP address, using the longest prefix match algorithm.

If multiple routes contain the same address prefix, Azure selects the route type, based on the following priority:

User-defined route

BGP route

System route
