Hello,

we have such problem that some computers suddenly stopped opening excel (version 15.0.5589.1001) documents directly, the programme opens but is empty without any document. If you open a document in the program by pointing to it from the computer, it opens. In the properties of excel files it is stated that the file is opened with "appvlp", if I change here manually to excel by pointing to excel.exe from the program files directory, then the program does not start at all showing an error: "The operating system is not presently configured to run this application".

Did not help these steps:

-quick office repair

-online office repair

-reset of default applications in windows.

Please help.

Thank you Krzysztof Nikołajczuk, it is logical, and it worked for me of course.

    One more time thank you

I also encountered this problem with Outlook. I find it that I only get the error message when I tired to start Outlook using the pinned icon in the taskbar. I can start the application just fine from the Start menu. So the fix for me was 1) unpin the Outlook icon from the taskbar. 2) start Outlook from the Start menu. 3) pin the app to the taskbar again.

Hope this fix works for you as well. :)

If you notice, the issue only affects the ones on the desktop and taskbar while the link from the start menu works fine.

Just copy the full link from the start menu and replace it with the ones on the desktop and taskbar

Example (My PC, your path might be different)

    A. Existing Link for desktop and taskbar

    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15\WINWORD.EXE"

Just right-click on the icon -> Word(right click) -> Properties

    Capture

    B. Existing Link under the start menu

    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\client\AppVLP.exe" "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\Root\Office15\WINWORD.EXE"

Just right-click on the icon -> More -> Open File Location

    Find the icon

Just right-click on the icon -> Word(right click) -> Properties

    Solution

Just change the target link to the same one from the start menu

We have same problem here. It is strange, that solution which was offered by Krzysztof Nikołajczuk is not working for us.
Where we can download older Office version ?
