Hi - I've got a student account (Univ of Texas at Dallas) that's run out of free credit.

Azure is telling me, "You've used all your free credit. Upgrade to keep going with your account."

When I click on "Upgrade" I'm then told, "You don't have permission to upgrade. You must have an owner role for the billing account. Find a billing account owner at Access control (IAM) and ask them to grant you this role."

When I go to access control and attempt to add myself as "Owner" I'm then told, "Failed to add Role assignment.... subscription is disabled and therefore marked as read only. You cannot perform any write actions on this subscription until it is re-enabled.."

Please advise...

Thank you for posting your question in Microsoft Q&A.

To get the role assigned to your account you will have to contact the owner of the subscription. Subscription owner will have all the permissions to assign a role to your account.

You can follow below steps to get information about owner of the subscription.

You can login to Azure Portal > Navigate to your target subscription > Click Access control (IAM) and scroll through role assignments you'll find the owners.

if you're specifically looking for the Account Administrator or Service Administrator for the subscription so you can view their contact info, you can do so by:

Visting the Subscriptions page in Azure portal, selecting the subscription you want to check, and then looking under Settings. Select Properties and the account administrator of the subscription is shown in the Account Admin box.
