Dear All, kindly asking for help regarding Windows updates on our Windows 10 and Windows 11 computers , we have some computers not able to install monthly updates and stay on the retry state Error code is : 0x80070643 I have tried to fix Windows with sfc/ scannow , chkdsk c: /f cleaned the Windows update repositories reset the services the issue is still happening and Windows updates not get installed on some computers any idea? Thanks

The kb5034439 update is for servers. The update I get for my laptop which downloads but fails to install is kb5034441. Does this information apply to personal computers as well?

I have a recovery partition and i have 500mb free space in that partition. But i got the error message: 0x80070643 ERROR_INSTALL_FAILURE. Any idea why i got this? Should i expand that partition?

I have read elsewhere, and now tried on several different computers, that a full re-install of Windows 10 from a fresh ISO download from Microsoft would fix this. It Does NOT.

I service a lot of client computers which are stuck on windows 10, and they all end up with this error. Their computers still work so far. But the error concerns (sometimes frightens) them.

Is this Microsoft's way of forcing people to buy new windows 11 systems?

I truly wish that someone of Microsoft's systems experts would take this seriously.

The error code 0x80070643 can be a pain when updating Windows machines. Here are a few additional things to try and hopefully get those updates installed:

Double-check Windows Update Services: Make sure the Windows Update service, Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS), and Cryptographic Services are all running and set to automatic startup. You can check this by searching for "services.msc" and looking for those specific services.

DISM Scan: Run a DISM scan to repair potential system image corruption. Open a command prompt as administrator and type: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth (press Enter after typing). This might take some time.

Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter: Microsoft provides a built-in troubleshooter that can diagnose and fix common update issues. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot and select "Windows Update" to run the troubleshooter.

What is the solution for users that have no recovery partition?

I received the update error every week with the last one on 02/21/2024, then no more attempts to install the fix. So for now it has stopped trying to install KB5034441.

I have tried this on one of my computers to no avail. BUT, even if I can make it work, I support 20+ local computer users and this would be a time consuming nightmare.

Surely Microsoft can spare a couple of their highly paid staff to resolve this.

I had enough space already, but increased it by 500 MB anyway to 1.15 GB.

Dear All,

I have followed and implemented every single advice and rabbit hole possible. For some it worked, for me NOTHING WORKED. The time spent on fixing this issue from a user perspective is ridiculous.

Here is what I suggest to SAVE SOME TIME.

Create a back-up of your data.

Download the latest OS 32 or 64bit on a 8GB or more usb storage device, using the windows tool. I am sure you are aware of this function. If not, google it.

Here is the rub: Re-install Windows. When this happens, make sure you delete every single partition on your drive that you can get rid of.

Resize the windows installation to take up less than what you have available on your drive.

Then proceed.

Same issue on an extremely clean and new Windows 10 Pro installation. Flow_p's link to the already reported problem was useful. The inner solution was changing the recovery partition size. I followed this guide exactly and rebooted, and the update installed:

I first thought it helped, but it did not. Windows Recovery is not and can not be enabled on my PC. But there was a RE partition that could be deleted and extended.

This method probably works for most people, but when I tried it and got the part about selecting the system partition, there was a system partition, and then there was the boot partition my system is installed on, so I found another, easier solution using the free Minitool Partition Wizard, instructions here: https://www.northshore-it.com/tips/how-tos/manually-resize-your-recovery-partition/

This worked perfectly, I didn't even have to reboot after resizing the partition. I had re-formatted a machine today on 10 22H2 and ran into this issue in the first round of Windows updates. All the regular commands like sfc /scannow and DISM commands, restarting services etc. didn't work, and this solution worked perfectly. Thank you!

Step 4c says "To select the OS disk, run sel disk<OS disk index> This should be the same disk index as WinRE."

Hey Jay. You're supposed to choose the partition named System but it's very likely that you'll get an answer as you try to shrink that says: you can't shrink this active partition.

Think this is a no issue for the common Windows user. This should be the programmers issue to solve. IF, this is a serious update that should be implemented on all Windows 10/11 computers in the world, it is not up for each user to "solve it" with "help" of some "magic solutions"! It is in the hands to the company that we pay to use the software... We should not even have to bother!! For the record. I have the same problem for a couple of weeks now for the update KB5034441 on a computer with Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based systems..

I tried this convoluted and highly technical solution 3 times now. Although Windows reports succession resizing, it has had ZERO IMPACT on my dilemma. I’m also rather frustrated that Microsoft has made changes that have negative consequences and then, when they can’t fix their stuff up, issue a technical fix that most users cannot understand, let alone fix. I AM NOT PERFORMING A FRESH INSTALLATION JUST TO ASSUAGE THE MICROSOFT TECHNICIANS WHO CANNOT PERFORM THEIR JOBS.

Thank you. I had error 0x80070643 on a Server 2022 box and freed up 512 MB of space and recreated my recovery partition as described, which is now 1.1 GB. I was then able to install KB5034439 successfully.

Using these instructions destroyed my Windows installation so it would no longer boot. I have to completely re-install everything now. I was doing this because of a Windows Update error that would not go away (0x80070643). Thanks Microsoft!

This failed on my computer, running Windows 10 Business, OS-version 19045.4170.

I followed the instructions exactly and afterwards reagentc doesn't recognise it as a windows RE partition:

I think that the update was deleted. When I tried to search on the Microsoft Catalog Update website, there were no results in the search as in the picture, so as I think the update was deleted.

Boas gente paciente do Windows. Executei os passos descritos neste vídeo e o problema foi resolvido. Acho que não é difícil e resolveu a situação da maldita actualização. EDIT: The issue is with KB5001716, but when I install manually it says it was installed already. Today I check the upgrade again and it just disappears. Looks like Windows failed to check if the patch was installed.

Resizing the recovery partition worked for me several weeks ago, but now it doesn't work any more even I've resized twice.

It's ridiculous that Windows cannot upgrade in their officially recommended way. MS should hire some professional programmers.

I have this update installed in my computer since 03-Oct-2023 and since yesterday the same one (KB5001716), has been traying to install again, failing all the time, yesterday and today.
