I am trying to connect my Dynamics 365 with Azure Synapse using synapse link in powerapps

Hi,

I am trying to connect my Dynamics 365 with Azure Synapse using the Synapse link in PowerApps. In PowerApps I am only able to create an environment using Canada Central as the region. But we have already created a resource group, storage account, and Synapse workspace under Canada East and we have data there. Now, When I am trying to connect Synapse Link with Synapse Workspace, because of this region difference, the connection is not working. Is there any other alternative way of making the connection instead of creating a new resource group?

Also for establishing the connection between the D365 and Synapse link. Do I have to be Admin in the D365 instance and also the track changes for the pipelines be enabled in the D365 instance or we turn it on the PowerApps side?

There are few options available to connect Dynamics 365 to Azure Synapse using Synapse Link in PowerApps, even with a regional mismatch.

Option-1
Azure Resource Mover is a service that allows you to move your Azure resources between regions. In this case, you can use Azure Resource Mover to move your existing resource group, storage account, and Synapse workspace from Canada East to Canada Central. This will allow you to create an environment in PowerApps using Canada Central as the region, which will match the region of your Synapse workspace.

Option 2

Another option is to use Azure Data Factory, which allows data integration across various sources, including D365 and Azure Synapse. This approach requires some development effort but offers more flexibility.

To successfully configure Synapse Link for data export and connect Dynamics 365 with Azure Synapse using the Synapse Link in PowerApps.

It is essential to grant necessary permissions to the Synapse Link service and enable change tracking within D365 to capture data modifications. Enabling change tracking ensures that Synapse Link captures all data changes, not just the initial data load, which is crucial for maintaining data accuracy and completeness.

Hi Harishga,

I tried using Azure Resource Mover, but I could not move the Synapse workspace to another region so, created a new workspace. And in the synapse link side, I linked the synapse link to the synapse workspace but there is no data inside the tables. Can you provide me any documentation regarding the steps that need to be enabled on the D365 side to establish the connection with the synapse link?

Can someone assist me in establishing this connection? this is the POC I am working for my company. It will be very useful if someone can assist me.

I have this info and I have already performed these steps, but I would need the list of steps that need to be performed on the source side which is D365 in my case like where to turn on the track changes property in the D365.

To enable change tracking in Dynamics 365 (D365) and establish a connection with Azure Synapse using Synapse Link, follow these steps on the source side (D365):

In Dynamics 365, navigate to Settings > Administration > System Settings > Customization tab. Under the General section, enable the Change Tracking option.

After enabling Change Tracking, you need to select the entities for which you want to track changes. To do this, navigate to Settings > Customizations > Customize the System. In the solution explorer, expand the entity for which you want to track changes, and then select the Fields node. In the list of fields, select the field for which you want to track changes, and then select the Change Tracking tab. Enable the Track Field History option.

Once you have enabled Change Tracking for the required entities and fields, you can use the Dynamics 365 connector in Azure Data Factory to move the data to Azure Synapse Link. In the Dynamics 365 connector, you need to specify the entities and fields for which you want to track changes.
