Hi there. We received an email stating that we need to complete a purchase by June 22, 2025 to keep the account active. Is this some sort of scam? I'm not aware of the Entra thing as I have never heard of it. Can someone please contact us to explain exactly what this is and why we're getting this notification?

    Hello @Mimosa Bar de Tapas

The email you received from Microsoft indicates that your Microsoft Entra ID tenant has been inactive for over 200 days. This is a reminder to take action regarding your tenant's inactivity.

To avoid any service disruptions, it's recommended that you make a purchase or renew your existing subscriptions before the deadline of June 22, 2025. This will ensure that your tenant remains active.

For clarification regarding the Entra ID tenant, a Microsoft Entra tenant provides identity and access management (IAM) capabilities for the applications and resources used by your organization. An identity represents a directory object that can be authenticated and authorized to access resources. These identity objects include human identities (such as students and teachers) as well as non-human identities like classroom and student devices, applications, and service principals.

The Microsoft Entra tenant serves as an identity security boundary under the control of your organization’s IT department. Within this boundary, the administration of objects (such as user objects) and the configuration of tenant-wide settings are managed by your IT administrators.

If you're already using services like Microsoft 365, Office 365, Azure, or Dynamics CRM Online, your tenant is automatically a Microsoft Entra tenant. You can start managing access to your integrated cloud apps right away. For additional information refer these documents:

    I hope this clarifies things.

Hi there @Mimosa Bar de Tapas

For clarification, Microsoft Entra ID is not a scam. Instead, it’s the new name for Azure Active Directory (Azure AD)—a cloud-based identity and access management service used mostly by businesses and organizations.

Now, the reason why you receive this email is because your Microsoft Entra ID tenant has been inactive for over 200 days. It’s a reminder to take action regarding your tenant's inactivity. And if you don’t know what a tenant is, it’s a globally unique instance of Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) that represents an organization and is associated with a specific domain (e.g., yourcompany.com) which includes user accounts, subscriptions, resources, security policies,... If you're using services like Microsoft 365, Office 365, Azure,..., your tenant is automatically a Microsoft Entra tenant. If you don’t log in to your Azure tenant via https://portal.azure.com/ within the specified time frame, it may be permanently deleted. Inactivity can trigger Microsoft’s process to remove unused tenants.

To prevent this, simply log in to your Azure tenant via https://portal.azure.com/. Check if your tenant is listed and whether there are any notifications or billing alerts. If there are no active subscriptions, no further action is required — your login itself counts as activity and will prevent the tenant from being blocked. If you're still unsure, log in to your Microsoft account then check for any alerts & messages available or kindly contact Microsoft support via the official portal.

Kindly let me know if you have any further questions or need any clarifications.

If I have answered your question, please accept this as answer as a token of appreciation and don't forget to give a thumbs up for "Was it helpful"!

    Best regards,

    Megan.
