Hi. I've been having problems with Microsoft Ege which does not show context menu options such as "New Tab" and "InPrivate Windows" when right-clicking the Microsoft Edge taskbar.

Previously I had these options in when resetting my PC. However, after some updates, the context menu only shows "Microsoft Edge".

I found this previous thread on the same issue and tried all the solutions posted, however it doesn't seem to work.

Microsoft Edge Context Menu missing - Microsoft Community

I tried to resetting Microsoft Edge setting & and repairing the Microsoft Edge setting.

I went as far as uninstalling Edge by deleting the registry and deleting all files related to Microsoft Edge and reinstall it but all of these methods do not work.

Is there any way to enable the context menu for the Microsoft Edge taskbar?

I'm currently running :

Microsoft Edge version 114.0.1823.67

Windows 22H2 with latest update 2023-06 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5027303)

Microsoft Edge | Other | Windows 11

I don't think it is related to the Microsoft Account since there's no option for Edge to sync the context menu items into the account. I believe it has to be either a Registry setting or a profile problem. Can you please try this and see if it works?

    • Unpin Edge from the taskbar
    • Open the Start Menu > All Apps > Right-click Microsoft Edge > More > Pin to taskbar (Do not open yet)
    • Go to Windows Settings > Personalization > Start
    • Toggle off the option "Show recently opened items in Start, Jump Lists, and File explorer
    • Turn it back on
    • Open Edge > three dots > New InPrivate window then use it for a few minutes and then check if the issue is fixed

Hi M.SR, I am Paulo and I'd like to help.

Try clearing the taskbar pinned items to default and see if that helps.

This is one of the first step I have taken previously. Unfortunately, it does not work.

I tried running the .bat file from the first step as shown on the website that you have provided just in case but the result still the same.

I see. What happens if you pin the msedge.exe file from C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application instead of pinning the shortcut from the Start menu?

Same thing happened. Except there are 2 Microsoft Edge pinned in the taskbar.

The only temporary solution that I've been able to get context menu options such as "New Tab" and "InPrivate Windows" in Microsoft Edge taskbar is to reset my PC.

But it will disappear again once there a new Microsoft Edge / Windows update.
