Mouse doesn't work in Microsoft Word to select text, or highlight text to copy or add features such as bold/italics/underline.

After pasting an E-mail into a Microsoft Word document (which I do all the time), my mouse stopped working to click anywhere in the document and it won't allow me to use the side scroll bar.  I can still click on tabs and commands up top and the page up and down buttons, but I can't highlight text to underline/bold/italics or to copy or move around in the document.  I use these features all the time and am very frustrated.  I can still do all of these things in other applications such as E-mail, Facebook, Internet but not in Word.  Please help.  I have already checked my mouse settings and drivers and they are all up-to-date without errors.  I have restarted my computer; the only next step I can think of is reinstalling Microsoft Office Professional 2007.  I appreciate any assistance you can provide.  Respectfully, Julie

I wonder if the support links you gave will help me too. I run XP and upgraded to Office 2007 a few months ago. Everything was fine and then the troubles started and its driving me mad.I keep thinking that one of the updates did this and its getting worse. I would uninstall and reinstall Office but it would still need the updates so I feel stuck. Here are my issues:

    1. Extremely difficult to highlight text in Outlook or Word 2007 and even when I manage to highlight sometimes the highlight disappears before I can move/paste,etc. I do a lot of newsletters and this is maddening. I can highlight one word but if I try to drag mouse to highlight more than one word...will not do it.
    2. Difficult to move an email item to a folder. Either won't let me 'grab' the item or moves it to a folder before I let go of the mouse and its NOT the folder I want.I have to use right click>move and I am a drag and drop kind of girl so its very frustrating.
    3. Cannot get to items on drop down menus in Outlook or Word 2007. Sometimes I have to click on the title many times to even see the drop down list and when I try to go down to select one the drop down items disappear.
    4. In my tray if Outlook or Office or Explorer is open with more than one message/document/folder and I try to get to one of them (kind of like a drop UP list) it won't let me even see them let alone select one just like when in Word or Outlook.

I have googled myself to death and found many with same issue but its with Vista so I do not want to make a mistake and use a Vista solution. This may be happening with Excel also but I have not been there lately.

    Tx

This is the way i fixed mine, and after trying more complicated alternatives, this worked first time.

This is how to fix the issue:

    1. Exit all Office programs
    2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK
    3. Locate the following registry subkey, as appropriate for the version of Word that you are running:
    • Word 2002: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft Office\10.0\Word\Data
    • Word 2003: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft Office\11.0\Word\Data
    • Word 2007: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft Office\12.0\Word\Data
    1. Click Data, and then click Export on the File menu
    2. Name the file Wddata.reg, and then save the file to the desktop
    3. Click Delete on the Edit menu, and then click Yes
    4. Exit Registry Editor
    5. Start Word.
