I amtrying to load HP Photosmart D71000 series. Keep getting error message:software cannot be installed using the 'Run as...' command. Guidance suggests logging on as user with admin priviledges. This was done and same message came up.  Why?

Try right-clicking on the setup.exe > Run as Admin.

If that does not work, try the Vista Hardware and Drivers Forum:

    Hi there Muddasser Ali,

Thank you very much for the more detailed information. Yes it did actually go through the install but in the end, it still said the software is incompatible. I hope I installed it correctly. I have a Windows 7 computer trying to install the HP Officejet 6200 Series program package.  So far it's printing but I haven't tried the features yet.

    Hi TraciMarrs1212,

I suggest trying to run the setup file in compatibility mode for Windows Vista with SP2.

The solution in control panel is as follows:

    • Open control panel.
    • Change your view (top right) to category. This will show the grouped options you are currently not able to see.
    • Select the Programs group by clicking on the text 'Programs'.
    • On the next screen select under the heading 'Programs and Features' select 'Run programs made for previous versions of Windows'. This will launch the Program Compatibility window.

    Select next to detect issues.

    • The next screen will show installed programs, select 'Not Listed' and click next.
    • Choose the location of the setup file by clicking on browse and navigating to the installer e.g. D:\Setup.exe and click next.
    • Select 'Try recommended settings'. The trouble-shooter will determine the best method to run the installer and show a summary of the settings applied. Click on 'Start the program' to run the installed with the new settings and follow any onscreen instructions. Be careful not to close the compatibility window in case the settings do not work so you can try different settings. I hope this is a little clearer.

I don't have this option on my control panel for Windows 7, so it doesn't work for me. Can someone be more explicit in explaining these steps?
