Windows Update Error Code: 80072EE2

Im running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit edition, Microsoft Security Essentials, and windows firewall. I keep getting the 80072EE2 error.

I have no idea what to do about this. Ive already tried all the methods in both:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836941

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Windows-Update-error-80072ee2

with the exception of the Method F and the Advanced methods: B/C.

Ive been trying to update since last night, so I dont think waiting anymore will help.

Ive also uninstalled and reinstalled my network adapter driver.

(Also tried the little "fixit" button on this thread: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistawu/thread/bfbdec70-e928-47ee-b073-665c4851bf4c)

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Fireblaze,

I am sorry it took so long for me to get back to your thread.

I would suggest you to follow the steps listed under **"Advanced troubleshooting methods"**in the following article:

You may encounter temporary connection-related errors when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update to install updates

Make sure the appidsvc service is running by running:

    net start appidsvc

    from an elevated cmd prompt.

If you don't have the subkey you apparently don't have this problem/solution either.

none of this is working! Help

The only work-around I've found for this specific error is (1) set Windows Update to Never check for updates under Change settings and close it, (2) run the Windows Update Troubleshooter at this link https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/gp/windows-update-issues/en-us (select Windows Update in the Troubleshooter) and (3) immediately open Windows Update and check for updates manually, even if the Troubleshooter says it could not fix everything. If you don't get the error again, let it check as long as necessary. I've also found it works better if you have a hi-speed Internet connection, DSL or faster. I have Dialup Internet at home and that often causes this specific error, possibly because the Windows Update Server times out. However, sometimes it will run with Dialup over an hour without the error and finally provide the update list.
