Windows Update Error Code: 80072EE2

Im running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit edition, Microsoft Security Essentials, and windows firewall. I keep getting the 80072EE2 error.

I have no idea what to do about this. Ive already tried all the methods in both:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836941

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Windows-Update-error-80072ee2

with the exception of the Method F and the Advanced methods: B/C.

Ive been trying to update since last night, so I dont think waiting anymore will help.

Ive also uninstalled and reinstalled my network adapter driver.

(Also tried the little "fixit" button on this thread: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistawu/thread/bfbdec70-e928-47ee-b073-665c4851bf4c)

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Fireblaze,

I am sorry it took so long for me to get back to your thread.

I would suggest you to follow the steps listed under **"Advanced troubleshooting methods"**in the following article:

You may encounter temporary connection-related errors when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update to install updates

    Thanks!

It worked without having to reboot.

I never closed windows update when I got the error code.

I looked for and tried the solution first then clicked "try again"

after I deleted theAU in the registry and it worked.

    I followed:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU

I'm updating as I type. Oops! It's thru. Gotta restart the cpr now.

    Thank You So Much.

YES!!! After months (yes, months) of trying different things for this update error (80072ee2), this *finally* did the trick! I tried the Win Up fix tool & no dice; I tried simply rebooting and no dice; I tried the Win Up cleanup and no dice; I tried the "netsh tcp autotune" cmd setting from a MS KB and no dice; I tried Disk Cleanup, which also removes legacy Win Up from C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and no dice; I tried checkdsk and no dice; I tried adding all MS update URL addresses to trusted sites and no dice. I'm sure there was a couple other options I tried as well. This was the only thing that worked. So, when I went to Control Panel > Windows Updates and clicked "Check for updates", after a minute or so I got the 80072ee2 error. When I went into regedit and browsed to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate key and deleted the "AU" key, I went back into Windows Updates and clicked 'Check for udpates' and it finally worked. It took about 10-15 minutes because I now have about 130 updates to install (this hasn't worked since May '15, and it is now 1 Dec 15). But, it finally worked. Now I hope that all the updates will install and not fail :) Thanks for this post!

    opening run and putting services.msc

then finding windows update in the list, right click and

then pressing stop, click apply, wait and then pressing

    start.

closing that services window, opening windows update again

    and checking for updates worked!

    it really worked!

Error returned and after following my steps listed above, it no longer resolves the issue.
