I'm using write.exe from several year ago, because it was the first word processor in Windows 95, and from then I was using it with windows 98, 2000, XP, etc.  but this applicantion doesn't work with windows 7. The compatibilyty solver doesn't give a solution. I have hundred of documents done with this application and I can't use them now. Others word processors doesn't open it correctly ¿ Can somebody give me a solution ?

    Hi

Write was replaced by Wordpad a long time ago. If you open write.exe, it should open Wordpad.

What format are the files that you created in Write? Do they have the .rtf file extension?

    Let us know.

Thank You for using Windows 7

An exceeding primitive "word processor," really more like a glorified

text editor with a few extra features. It doesn't meet the needs of

most people who want to do word processing, but if it meets yours,

    that's fine.

Write has been gone for several versions now. It's been replaced by

WordPad, which is essentially just the new name for the new version of

Write. But "write" has always been an alias for WordPad, so you can

    start it with either command.

Yes, it does. Just as with prior versions, do Ctrl-R, type write.exe,

and you will get WordPad, the new version of Write.

Have you tried that? If you have and it doesn't work, please tell us

what "doesn't work" means.  What happens when you try? If you get an

error message, please quote it verbatim.

What is the extension (the part of the file name after the dot) of

these hundreds of documents? What other word processors have you

tried? When you say "doesn't open it correctly," exactly what does

that mean? What do the opened documents look like?

I'm using write.exe from several year ago, because it was the first word processor in Windows 95, and from then I was using it with windows 98, 2000, XP, etc.  but

Windows 95 already had changed over to Wordpad. Although Wordpad in Win95/98  used write.exe as the executable and both could open .WRI files neither can save files in that format AFAICT. If the file extensions are .WRI then they should have been created with the MS Write program from Win3.x and earlier, or are using an incorrect file extension and are really some other file format. (eg. I created a test file in Win95 using write.exe then saved it, typing in the .wri extension. The resulting test.WRI file was actually in MS Word 6.0 format-the default file type selection).

Oddly enough MS web service sends you to Corel Wordperfect when it searches for an app to open a .WRI file. Might be worth a try to get the trial version if only to convert the existing files to a more generic format.

Maybe someone can confirm if .WRI is in the list of file types that (current) Wordperfect can open?

I had tried to send to :   *** Email address is removed for privacy ***

this reply with some files to investigate by you, but the e-mail address give back an error. Please say me how to send you the files.

Thank you Ronnie for your quick answer.

If I try to open "write.exe", the computer doesn't open the WordPad, only give you the message :

"The version of this file is not compatible with the actual Windows Version. Check the system information to see if you need a version x86(32 bits) or x64(64 bits) of the program and then contact with the supplier".

The files created with this program  have .wri  extension

I'm sending you the application file ( with the extension" .exe"  changed to   " .xxx" to be able to send ) and an example file.

Also I just have seen it happen also with other program I'm triying to install. It is a diccionary.  Also, the version is not compatible with Windows 7.  It is working perfectly with windows XP in my other Acer.

Also I'm sending you the application file ( with the extension" .exe"  changed to   " .xxx" to be able to send ) to investigate by you.

I don't  know hat is happening with Windows 7

Thanks in advance and best regards

    Hi Ken

This little " text processor" has not the big possibilities of others, but have the very easy use to make quickly notes with the posibility of change the font, the bold, etc. It is like the notepad with some posiblities that a normal text processor has not, if, for example , you want to use it every day annotating the things you done, in the same file, with the possibility to make a quickly search , perhaps in one year with a key word.

I apologise about my explanations because in english it is very difficult to me.

I will try to explain the errors :

If I try to open "write.exe", the computer doesn't open the WordPad, only give you the message :

"The version of this file is not compatible with the actual Windows Version. Check the system information to see if you need a version x86(32 bits) or x64(64 bits) of the program and then contact with the supplier".

The files created with this program  have .wri  extension

The others word procesors I have, are Microsoft Works Text Procesor, Microsoft Office Word 2007, and WordPad  ( and the note pad).

No one of them open correctly a file.wri

I'm sending some documents to try to open by you with other text procesors.

Thanks in advance and best regards
