Unknown Device (Code 28) - All Network Drivers (Code 31)

I'm trying to fix a problem with my Dad's computer, he advised that he couldn't connect to the internet anymore. When I took a look, the Network icon in the system tray says 'Not Connected - No Connections Available'.

After alot of faffing and searching on the net, I stumbled across the Device Manager and found that all of the Network Drivers have a Code 31 error. Then I noticed below these, that there is another error for an 'Unknown Device' which has a Code 28 error. On the Details tab in Properties for the Unknown Device, the Values state '00000040' and 'CONFIGFLAG_FAILEDINSTALL'.

Everything was working fine before, please can someone point me in the right direction?

I have attempted to update the Network Drivers to no avail. Obviously I would try to update the 'Unknown Device' if I knew what an earth it was!

Thank you very much in advance.

The computer is a Dell Vostro 1015 laptop with Windows 7.

It may be difficult to remove the leftovers.

One thing you could try is to reinstall iDisplay and check if the problems go away.

    Then uninstall iDisplay,

Just did as told, problem is still there.

Forgot to mention one thing. Recently, I discover under COMPUTER, my network drive is not displayed. But in Computer Management - Storage, it is there and is healthy. My other computers in my home network can see and access the network drive too. Can this be the culprit?

Yes, that may be a leftover from the iDisplay installation.

What version of iDisplay was installed?

Also, does any problem device show up in Safe Mode?

Not sure what version was the iDisplay, but reckon it was a recent one as it was installed and uninstalled about 1 or 2 months ago.

Problem device shows up at Safe Mode too.

Is there a way to clean uninstall the leftover files?

There appears to be two "problem devices" (bolded):

<Data><Device>Not Available</Device><PNP_Device_ID>ROOT\LEGACY_DXKGFILTER\0000</PNP_Device_ID><Error_Code>The drivers for this device are not installed.</Error_Code></Data><Data><Device>PS/2 Mouse</Device><PNP_Device_ID>ACPI\PNP0F03\4&DAE4155&0</PNP_Device_ID><Error_Code>This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed.</Error_Code></Data>

The first one appears to be related to "DXKGFILTER**".**

    Has iDisplay ever been installed?

The second one "ACPI\PNP0F03\4&DAE4155&0" may be related to a USB mouse.

Has a Microsoft USB mouse ever been attached to the computer?

Yes, I installed iDisplay, but uninstalled it. Some leftover files? Can they be removed/deleted now?

No Microsoft mouse ever installed. I am always using Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard.
