Live Tv Streaming problems

Question

I am trying to use a metro app to stream live tv.  I tried filmon, omnivision tv, & pptv.  None of them can stream.  filmon and ominivision cannot get past loading.  PPTV can load and I can watch on demand shows however live streams do not work.  Any ideas as to why?

I am running windows 8 pro 64bit.  The mother board is a UEFI motherboard GA-H77N-WIFI.

Have you tried, since your last efforts with Avast, to uninstall the faulty Apps, and then to reinstall them and retest?

For testing purposes disable Windows Defender Real Time scanning.  See what that does.  Also have another look at the Clean Boot procedure concentrating on third party programs and services.

Thanks for your help.

Did not want to however I got tired of messing with this so I first did a system image in case I wanted to go back to what I had and then performed a system reset which basically reinstalled everything and started from scratch.  Not sure what the difference is between a reset and a reinstall, seems about the same.

During the reinstall windows said it was missing files to perform the reset, I had to get the windows dvd for it to perform the reset.  I think these missing files are probably what was causing me grief.

I am dissapointed that Windows trouble shooting in the action center and the App trouble shouting program for metro apps from microsoft's website were not able to recognize and notify me that the original install had problems.

I now have windows 8 reset, windows media center reinstalled, and everything working properly.  (Now I have to go through the pain and agony of setting up the hdhomerun signal and channels for MCE.  I have to manually configure most of the channels, what a pain.)  This fixed the Metro App problems with TV it also fixed tunein radio app issues.  Previously tunein radio worked fine however there were some channels I could not get to play such as DBC1 from HK.  I did not think these issues were linked original, the reset however resolved the play issues with these stations also.

I uninstalled AVAST and am currently using Windows Defender.  PPTV live tv works fine now however I can't get any other live streaming apps to work such as filmon, omnivision tv, etc.

Partially fixed however still frustrated this should not be this hard.

I vaguely remember problems with Avast in the past.  Do you want to try removing Avast and then testing your streaming?  As Windows 8 comes with a built in Anti Virus program called Windows Defender and based on Microsoft Security Essentials you could get away without even using Avast.

If the removal fails to solve the problem it is easy enough to install Avast again.  Make sure you reboot after any removal and make sure Windows Defender is enabled and running by launching "C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exe" or typing, Defender, in the Search box.  In any case don't have two real time scanners running together as that itself can cause problems.

I just tried disabling firewall and anti-virus at the same time.  After doing this PPTV app was able to stream live however the omnivision/film on apps still can't get past the loading screen.  I am using Avast anti-virus I need to figure out how to add this app to a allow access type list so I can have avast running and use the app. 

Not sure what to do about omnivision & film on or other similar apps.
