DBT_DEVNODES_CHANGED

Hello

my laptop suddenly started to repeatedly give me the sound of when a device gets plugged into it. With the plug and play monitor (pnpMon.zip) I found out that every four seconds DBT_DEVNODES_CHANGED happens.

There is no update available, restarting doesn't help, it started suddenly out of nowhere without me downloading anything. Bluetooth isn't active either and obviously no cable, usb stick or whatever is plugged in. However I spilled a drink over my keyboard. Maybe that is what caused it but the sound started about half an hour later.

Or is something else at fault here and I can actually do something so that it stops?

(I hope I picked the right category etc.)

I took a look into the device manager and I couldn't find any devices that had a yellow warning triangle.

I could however not find the Plug an Play monitor.

Also I noticed that when I open the device manager, every few seconds all the devices disappear before just reappearing again. It also put me back to the top of my devices. Maybe those problems are somhow connected?

Thank you for these information and update. Basing on the results of the actions we performed on your computer, it could be possible that this might be more of a hardware or driver related issue but definitely not the spilled drink on the keyboard.

Just to clarify, after downloading of the Plug~N~Play Monitor program/driver for your computer, did it successfully installed? Because if it does, it could be possible that the Device Manager is not recognizing the program/driver for it. You can perform the work around and do troubleshooting from the Device Manager as stated on the link.

We'll be waiting on the results to assist you further.

Created another account and changing users did not do anything unfortunately.

But I constantly get the notification (turned it off on my account and forgot about me doing that) that my PC could not recognize the last plugged in USB device. I do not recall plugging anything in before the problem appeared.

    Hi Lenprob,

Popups after an installation sometimes might mean that there is something that might be either an incompatible program, incorrectly installation, or at most cases a corrupted system file that needs to be configured. In order for us to refer you to the correct channel or provide the right troubleshooting, we would like to know the following:

    • Are there any major changes that was done on the computer?
    • What is the make and model of your computer?
    • What is the current build and version of your computer?
      • You'd be able to have this checked by pressing the Windows button + R on your keyboard and type winver. Then press on Enter afterwards.
    • Have tested if the the issue is happening on a different user profile?
    • Are you modifying your hardware's performance or behavior?

In the meantime, if you haven't tested if the issue is reoccurring on a different user profile, I suggest that you create a new user profile and name it as test. This is for us to check if the integrity of the PowerShell of your current user profile intact or not. Once the test user profile is created, If the error still shows, as you can run the hardware troubleshooter as an initial troubleshooting. Next, uninstall and reinstall the latest graphic drivers that you can retrieve from your computer manufacturer or graphic card's manufacturer website if the issue still happens.

We'll be waiting for your response to assist you further.
