DBT_DEVNODES_CHANGED

Hello

my laptop suddenly started to repeatedly give me the sound of when a device gets plugged into it. With the plug and play monitor (pnpMon.zip) I found out that every four seconds DBT_DEVNODES_CHANGED happens.

There is no update available, restarting doesn't help, it started suddenly out of nowhere without me downloading anything. Bluetooth isn't active either and obviously no cable, usb stick or whatever is plugged in. However I spilled a drink over my keyboard. Maybe that is what caused it but the sound started about half an hour later.

Or is something else at fault here and I can actually do something so that it stops?

(I hope I picked the right category etc.)

Since it still re-occurs, let's have it uninstalled on the Device Manager through the built-in admin and perform an update there. Let's see if this would resolve this. Here are the steps in turning on your built in admin:

    1. Click on Start button and type cmd.
    2. On the results, right click on cmd and click Run as administrator.
    3. Once the command prompt is open, key in net user administrator /active:yes and press Enter.
    4. Afterwards, key in shutdown /r and press Enter to restart the computer.
    5. After the computer restarts, you should be able to have an additional user profile named as Admin or Administrator which shouldn't require any password to access.
    6. Next, open your device manger and perform the steps that we performed on the previous post.

Note: Be advised that the Built-in Administrator is not advisable to be used like the usual user profiles on your computer as this is intended for troubleshooting only. After the troubleshooting, you can disable the built-in administrator by performing the same steps and change the value on the command prompt from net user administrator /active:yes to net user administrator /active:no and restart your computer.

If the issue persists, next would be performing an update to the last build release for 1709. You can perform the steps indicated on this link as a guide to ensure that you'll be able to get the latest update for your Windows 10.

Please keep us posted on this thread if this resolves your concern.

When I take a look at the bottom right of the screen the notification has actually disappeared. But I think it had also appeared sometimes after I did it. But at least now it doesn't.

Just to clarify, are you still getting the error messages though? The steps I advised to you previously should act as a refresh to the devices detected on your system. Mainly anything that's external would remain uninstalled. However, if it gets reinstalled, this would only mean that you computer identifies that it is necessary and also would be reinstalling it if it deems it missing or necessary and as part of it's primary drivers.

If you have further questions, don't hesitate to reply on this thread.

I restarted in safe mode and uninstalled a monitor I found when I clicked on "Show hidden devices". It returns after every restart and while being uninstalled nothing changed either.

However, I don't see the notice that tells me a USB device couldn't be recognized anymore.
