Where is Excel in W10? Why can I NOT set it as default app for a specific file?

Hello,

Why is everything so difficult and why is Microsoft trying to force me to use something, or trying to prevent me from using something?

I want to set up Excel as the default app for .xml files.

Cannot be done.

Excel will not show up as an option and it cannot be found in the computer. It's hidden....

Is there a way to find it even though Microsoft doesn't want me to?

Thank you.

Have you tried right clicking on an .xml file, choose Properties, then next to Opens With: app click Change, browse to Excel, choose it, if offered tick the box to Always open this file type with this app.

This is another way to establish default which sometimes works better.

Of course, but that's the problem - you cannot navigate to the Excel file/.exe. Look at the second attachment in my previous reply, that's exactly what I am trying to do (among other things), that's the subject of this topic: "Where is Excel".

Your attachment showed setting Default in Settings, not Explorer. I asked if Explorer is different, as it can be in some cases. This is the first you've said Explorer default does the same.

    I have office 365 installed.

    If so, then navigate to:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\EXCEL.EXE

There is no such folder under either Program Files or Program Files (x86). I searched for 'Office16' in C: and nothing was found.

    You don't have Office.

The current default is Explorer, I am trying to change that. The 2nd screen shot shows what I see when I right click the .xml file, go to Properties and try to change the default program. It doesn't show Excel and doesn't give me an option to get to Excel.
