Uninstalling Visual C++ redistributables - how?

Cleaning up a PC, how do I uninstall/remove any MS Visual C++ re-distributable program files from a win7 system?

  • what folder are they installed in?
  • Is it just the uninstall option from the programs and features page? or
  • are there entries in the registry that must also be removed?

??

You have your ways to restore partitions and this is good.

Now make a choice of operating system that you will stick with.

I own X3 Retail and never had an issue when I use it with XP Pro,  today I will reinstall it a Win7 Pro for a first time.

Now lets say that you are installing Video studio at fresh operating system .... Question did you select -> Right click -> Run as administrator of the specific  Video studio.exe  ?

Another solution so to stop the App from crashing or hung,  this is to activate the REAL Administrator account and install it from it.

    Good luck.

    KT,

Your remarks about VS install when "run as administrator" are very interesting in several ways:

First, because Corel's install instructions - for any version - have never said to do that.

Second, for the last 2 versions released (2019 and 2020) there have been many complaints in the product user forum about crashes, including silent crashes (no messages at all, even from windows), with many if not most of those events reported for installations using win10; and

Third, because I'm the admin (and only) user of my PC:  altho I do use some programs "run as administrator", for installations on win7 as a normal (admin) user, an install of Video studio was just 'execute the installer'.  And I have never had the issues on the win 7 platform  (that eventually and with a lot of luck were traced to the re-distributables) that I experienced when trying to get the software to work properly when win10 was the OS.

So, can you explain why, under win10, a 'run as administrator' install would

    • prevent program crashes or hang-ups when they are run after the installation process is over?
    • prevent the re-distributable 'capture' effect I described in my recent post (re the impact of successive installs of different versions of the program on the re-distributables used by an earlier one)?

In short, just how 'key' is this method of install to preventing application issues???

In this planet they are Windows owners which blindly trust Microsoft and the others which DO NOT.

In my retail version of Win7 Pro SP1 after install from the shiny DVD media,  at SuperUser console I got Yellow Text nag screen, this complaining that scripting in my machine this is turned OFF.

Scripting this is what any software installer will use so to install a pile of additional files and even windows services and even C+ language support files, which all at the end they will do cooperate, so this software title (package)  to function at your PC.

The faithful Windows owners, they trust piles of windows updates patches which they do aloud Scripting but under of the wishes of Microsoft , regarding which software product or functionality this will run or get blocked.

This is a puzzle mostly for software developers which they trusted Microsoft tools so them to develop their own software, and suddenly Microsoft changed their policy and started blocking software made to function with older version of Microsoft tools for developers.

In summary, at a Windows installation as is my own:

     Win7 SP1

    Fresh hand-selected device drivers

    NO security Patches.

Then me in person due the System Administrator account, I have the power to aloud a software installer to use temporarily the privilege of this installing freely all required components which the specific  software requiring so this to operate perfectly in the end.

At Win10 it seems that Microsoft implemented a huge amount of software engines, them taking entirely the control of all system functions and crashing down the free will of the user further more than in Win7.

    KT,

Business uses the term "standard operating environment" or SOE to describe a standardised set of machines/windows/programs/settings they use:  it makes support a whole lot easier and cheaper.  It varies from business to business, but for any given business, it avoids the variations seen is an anarchic computer world.  And MS supported them all.

windows 10 is MS attempt at an SOE, for the windows world at least, which is why so many options that previously existed in the OS, esp for updates,  and which made machines "different" are no longer there.  Standardise the end-user seems to be the focus.

However, you haven't answered the questions:

why will installing software in run as administrator mode avoid crashes etc as you previously claimed???

And how does that affect the condition of Visual C++ redistributable capture of the most recent version install??

The question has be answered from my end in Full.

The conclusion will become meaningful as soon you do answer to your own self  at these questions bellow:

    1. Which files from Video studio they need elevated administrator rights so the operating system to not block them? or adding delay on their start up time.
    2. Which are the recent decisions of Microsoft regarding its one of Visual C++ version ?  (Aloud or Block due the OS)
    3. Which are the recent decisions of Microsoft regarding its one NET.  version ?  (Aloud or Block due the OS)

There is no any anarchic computer world, what there is this is a FREE computer world that Microsoft wanted to join in and become popular within it, when and if their products them would gain any adoption by the computing society.

In summary, people which do plan to create and use a productive workstation exclusively for video editing, they make necessary steps and buying decisions in software and in hardware according the size of their own personal experience regarding computing topics.

Good luck with your own choices.
