Bluetooth is missing from Device Manager

I've been having issues with my laptop suddenly thinking it doesn't support bluetooth. I've tried all the options I can find including running the troubleshooter, telling device manager to show hidden items, downloading and installing the latest drivers from the laptop manufacturer's website, and more. It seems if I can get bluetooth to show up in the device manager I'll be able to uninstall it, restart the laptop, and it should reinstall bluetooth upon booting back up. But I cannot get bluetooth to show up in the device manager. I don't want to accept that bluetooth simply doesn't work on my laptop any more and resort to buying an external bluetooth adapter, but it's looking like that's my only option right now. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Virginia - I'm having the same issue - Bluetooth was previously working, then disappeared from Device Manager. I tried all the steps you suggested, and others on this thread, none of them worked. Bluetooth Troubleshooter says 'Device doesn't have bluetooth.' Any other suggestions?

Ok, none of this changing Windows-settings worked for me. My solution was buying a $12 External Bluetooth Adapter. Plugged it in - and that fixed the problem!

I tried everything and nothing worked until I physically removed the card (Intel Wireless-AC 8265), rebooted the machine without it, then reinstalled it and rebooted again. In my case, the BT device simply disappeared, possibly after a bloody Windows update. Rolling back, troubleshooters, repairing drivers, etc, etc did nothing to help.
