Persistent NVIDIA GPU Issue with Code 43 on Windows 11

Despite the GPU (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q Design) being recognized in the BIOS and listed in Device Manager, it does not appear in Task Manager. As a result, my system defaults to using the integrated Intel(R) UHD Graphics.
In Device Manager, next to the driver, a Code 43 error is reported with the message 'The device has reported a problem and has been stopped.' Additionally, the NVIDIA Control Panel does not launch.

Here's a brief summary of the steps I've already attempted, unfortunately without success:

  1. Complete uninstallation of NVIDIA drivers in Safe Mode
  2. Updating drivers directly from NVIDIA's website
  3. Installing drivers through NVIDIA GeForce Experience
  4. Reinstalling the NVIDIA Control Panel
  5. Restarting NVIDIA Display Container LS from Services

I've noticed that my issue mirrors one discussed in a previous thread: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/nvidia-control-panel-is-not-opening-gpu-driver-is/806a0e62-384b-4d1c-9386-8900c2a2ce14

I believe this is not a hardware problem.

UPDATE: The issue has been resolved and it was a hardware issue.

What you can try to do is to repair your Windows system but the error code indicates a hardware problem.

    Hi

My problem turned out to be a hardware fault, it was under warranty, and the company I bought the PC from were happy to receive the card back. They tested it, got the same issue and then sent me a replacement.

There are lots of diagnostics you can do with various apps, rolling back to previous drivers that worked in the past etc. In my case I'd tried all of those, and as I said, it turned out to be a non-specific fault with the card.

Sorry I can't be of more help, however during my research of the fault, I did come across several users who managed to fix the fault (often more by chance than good planning), so you may stumble upon a solution.

I suppose if you have the opportunity, trying the card in another machine (a friend's for example, or a friendly local independent store), will rulenout a card hardware issue.

Best of luck with your endeavours.

    Nick

    Hi

I'm the original poster of the query and it turned out to be a faulty card. I tried all manner of uninstall and install actions.

There are some utilities that can help, I recall there was something that could tell you what your GPU was running and how it was performing.

Is it outputting a signal at all?
