Hi I want to backup my PC and I have a few questions:

  1. Is good to use Windows backup and restore(Windows 7) as a backup method? Or should I use file history or OneDrive to backup?
  2. which settings should I use?
  3. does putting all my personal files into libraries help the backup process as I can only backup the libraries that contain all my data and not the entire hard disk?

OneDrive as a component of O365 is not a backup, its the default location of your data, and no data is stored on the PC

The OneDrive as part of win only has 5gb capacity.

So any response would depend on whether O365 is involved or not

If no OneDrive then file history works with some caveates

    Hello, I'm here to help.

    1. Backup and Restore is no longer recommended as it is an outdated feature.

If you only need to back up your files, yes, OneDrive or File History are better options.

However, Backup and Restore is still the only software available for making disk images, so if you need to back up an entire disk (including data and applications), it's the only option.

    1. If you want to use Backup and Restore, I recommend checking the disk image option only.
    2. If you use OneDrive or File History to back up your data, you'd better put them into library.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reply. This is not a live chat channel and replies may be delayed, I will respond within minutes to hours.

My personal recommendation would be OneDrive, as it doesn't incur losses due to disk corruption.

I once used OneDrive but disabled it because it messed up my desktop icons so I decided to disable it.

Is there a way to prevent OneDrive from syncing the desktop?

Should I place my files in the lobraies so it's easier to backup for OneDrive?
