Stop Code: Kernel_Security_Check_Failure

Hello,

I have a Dell XPS 8930 running windows 11 upgrade from Windows 10. I am trying to clone the 2tb NVME drive to a 4tb NVME drive. I have tried several makes of cloning software and they all say the clone was successful, but the clone will not boot. I keep getting the Stop Code: Kernel_Security_Check_Failure. Then a quick screen shows "ROM Image is not loaded and ROM Image update denied. Then it goes through the Automatic repair process but says there are no hardware issues. All drivers and software are up to date. Virus scans are clean.

If I look at the drives in Disk Management, the OS cloned partition does not show Boot, Page File and Crash Dump as shown on the screen grab.

As stated above, I have tried different cloning software and they all give the same result. BSOD Kernel Security Check Failure.

I have tried to repair with a recovery usb. Nothing works and I have not found any solutions through Google :-(

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hello Igor,

I want to thank you again for your help in resolving my issue. This was not as easy as it should have been but that's how it goes when you don't know what you're doing...lol.

It turns out, the issue was in the BIOS setting for SATA. I guess DELL defaults to RAID configuration and a DELL community member suggested to change that to AHCI. Before I made the BIOS change, I had returned the Gen4 drive and replaced it with a Gen3 as we had spoken about that possibly being an issue but, I ended up with the same error. Once I changed the BIOS to AHCI, I was able to do the clean install of Windows 11 and now all is good in the world...lol.

    Thanks again Igor!!!

    Best Regards,

    TZ

    Hi Igor,

Thank you for your rapid response. The programs I used are Acronis Cyber Protect, both free and paid versions, Macrium Reflect (free) and AOMEI Backupper. They all returned the same result.

    Best Regards,

    Toby
