Hi

I have an Azure static we app in Free tier which I have used it to deploy my website! The website is deployed successfully.

Before adding a custom domain, I could open the website with the random generated website address but right after I added the custom domain (essentially my Godaddy domain name) and setting my custom domain as default address, I can't open my website as I get certificate issue!

Microsoft documentation (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/static-web-apps/overview) explained that a free SSL certificate will be always available in this service!

Hi Intelicosmos,

When you add a custom domain to your Azure Static Web App (even on the free tier), Azure needs to provision a free SSL certificate for that domain. However, the SSL certificate is only issued after Azure verifies that you correctly own and configure the custom domain. If this DNS setup isn't fully complete or hasn't propagated yet, you'll see a "certificate not valid" or "missing certificate" error when you try to visit the site. This is expected until the domain validation is successful, and the certificate is issued.

For your GoDaddy domain, you need to ensure that:

If you're using a CNAME, point it to your Azure Static Web App's default domain, like: blue-water-12345.z01.web.core.windows.net

If you're using an A record, you also need to add a TXT record for domain validation.

You can check your required DNS values in the Azure Portal > Your Static Web App > Custom domains. Map a custom domain to Azure Static Web Apps

After updating your DNS records, DNS propagation may take up to 10–30 minutes (sometimes longer with GoDaddy). During this time, SSL won't be active yet, and HTTPS will show a certificate error. Azure will automatically detect the domain once DNS is correct and provision the certificate. You can monitor this in the Custom domains blade of your Static Web App in Azure. Once validated, you’ll see a green check and HTTPS will start working.

If it's been a while and SSL still doesn’t work, try removing and re-adding the custom domain from the Azure portal. This will re-initiate the domain validation and SSL provisioning process.

I can confirm that, including TXT record that I added in Godaddy before, after adding a A record into Godaddy, it started working after few minutes.

I can confirm that, including TXT record that I added in Godaddy before, after adding a A record into Godaddy, it started working after few minutes.
