Unable to delete custom emoji in Teams

Hi,

I created a custom emoji without understanding that it will be visible to everyone in the organization. After realizing that it is available for everyone to use, I wanted to delete it but the option was not there. Then I contacted a Teams admin in my organization and he gave delete permission for everyone to delete custom emojis. Now the option is available to delete but when I click on delete it says, "unable to delete. Please try again".

    Hello Imal,

This issue is still hanging as a service incident and is not resolved yet, however the product group of engineering for Teams service at Microsoft is aware of it and working on it, however, didn't introduce a solid ETA for the fix.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Hello Imal,

Thank you for the prompt response.

Apologies for the inconvenience this is causing you.

Please ask your admin to try and delete it from their end, as they have more permissions than you, that should help.

Wait for Propagation: After the admin deletes it, a custom emoji might take some time to reflect across all users in the tenant. It can take up to 24 hours for the deletion to be fully processed. Custom emojis in Microsoft Teams - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn

If the admin is unable to delete it either, then there might be a configuration/permission issues, your admin can contact Microsoft technical support team.

Microsoft's back-end support team can inspect the advanced logs and investigate the cause of this issue from the back end.

Due to the limited permissions and access resources of our community moderators, and the privacy of your data, we are unable to collect certain types of logs in public forums.

    Hello Imal,

Good day! Thank you for posting to the Microsoft Community. We'll be happy to help!

Based on your description, I understand that you are having issues deleting a Teams custom emoji.

As you have tried to delete the emoji multiple times, it might have been deleted but still visible because of the caching issues. Use Custom Emoji in Microsoft Teams - Microsoft Support

You can try to check if the emoji is still there from Teams web Client (Please open your browser and Sign into Teams web client and confirm if the issue persists).

If the emoji is not visible in Teams web client, it means it was deleted, but still visible as cache, please clear Teams cache to remove the emoji on the Teams desktop app as well: Clear Teams cache - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn

If the emoji is still there on the Teams web, please try to delete it from the Teams web client and confirm if you get the same error message.

If the issue persists, you can ask your admin to delete the emoji for your through their Teams Desktop client.

I look forward to your responses. Please note that our initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can find a solution together. Thank you for your help.

Thank you very much for your cooperation and understanding.
