I once was able to create rules for a shared mailbox and now I continue to receive an error message.

Whenever I try to create a rule for a shared mailbox, it will not allow me to select the folder where I want to move the email.

Whenever I click on the folder where I want to move the email, I receive the following error message,

"The operation failed. An object could not be found."

Outlook | Windows | Classic Outlook for Windows | For home

This worked to create a rule in Outlook on the web in a shared mailbox -

Open the mailbox using open other mailbox command. The mailbox will be in a separate tab in your browser. Create the rule.

    Hi Sharnae J,

Thanks for the screenshot. However, I have tested on my side using latest Outlook 365 desktop Current Channel 2106 (Build 14131.20320) can create rule for Shared mailbox without any issue.

Here is the screenshot for your reference:

May I know whether you have tried to select any other folder to move email? If not, please create a new test folder and then select the folder to move the email to check this issue.

Let me know the result so that we can further assist you. Your cooperation is highly appreciated.

    Best regards,

    Shyamal

I tried moving the email to another folder and it did not work.

I also tried moving other emails to other folders and received the same error message.

In my personal mailbox, I have the ability to create rules without any issue.

In the shared mailbox, I receive the same error message when trying to select any folder to move the email.

    Hi Sharnae J,

Thanks for the update. May which Outlook 365 client version are you using and how did you add the shared mailbox in the Outlook desktop client? Is it manually added or Automapped?

To eliminate the possibility that there's a fault in your current Outlook profile, please may try to create new Outlook profile and then set up the rules to check this issue.

Note: Please do not delete the old profile and can refer to it to get the new one set up. Once you have the new profile set up, you should select to “Always use this profile” option.

In the meantime, you may also try using Outlook on the web to open the shared mailbox in a separate browser window to setup the email rules for the shared mailbox to see whether the problem still occurs. For your reference, see under Outlook on the web

Your patience and understanding will be highly appreciated.

    Best regards,

    Shyamal

Is the folder in the shared mailbox? You can only move it to folders in your mailbox.

To create rules in a shared mailbox, you need to open the mailbox as an account in Outlook or create the rules in the account in Outlook on the web.
