How do I get out of "Thread View" view mode?

I accidentally set a folder into "thread view" mode. This view mode replaced the common "standard" tool bar groups, i.e., Current View, Messages, and Arrangement tool bar groups. Does anyone know how to get out of this mode?

I have attached a screen shot of the Outlook 'View' toolbar in 'Thread View" mode. The "thread view' button does not have any options except the description shown in the screenshot.

Outlook for Windows version 2207 (Build 15427.20194 Click-to-Run)

Searching for "thread view" in Help or the web doesn't yield any useful information about the "thread view" mode. I don't remember what I did to set the folder into this view mode.

    Hello Chris

That should be a toggle - click it a second time to get out of it.

    Diane,

Thank you for the advice. I was going crazy, but now I know something is wrong. Clicking on 'Thread View' causes the button to disappear to the left for a fraction of a second, but it comes right back. Occasionally when double-clicking on the 'Thread View' button, the 'View Settings' gear icon appeared very briefly before 'Thread View' button returned. However, I haven't been able to reproduce that behavior in recent tests. The reading pane can't be turned off, but that seems consistent with the description of 'Thread View' mode.

Is there any other way to turn 'Thread View' mode off?

The affected folder is very large at ~58,000 items, primarily modest sized text-based emails. I wonder if that could be an issue. I could try testing on a small test folder, but I don't remember how I turned 'Thread View' on.

    -Chris

You shouldn't have it - I thought thread view was disabled.

Did you try changing the view on the folder?

Yes, I was improving the readability of all my received mail folders. But since the affected folder is mostly conversations/threads I built a custom view just for it. Since this view was just for the affected folder it doesn't appear in the list of views. Currently I don't see a way to access the view settings for this folder.

Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly what I did so all I can do is free-associate. I don't recall a setting called 'thread view' (or similar), but if I encountered any setting that pertained to threads or conversations it is likely that I would have tried it to see what it does. At some point I experimented with basing a view on the Compact View but I don't recall if I ever completed a view based on that. It was probably 45min or an hour before I realized I had a problem

Note: I have "Coming Soon" ON in Outlook. I figured "coming soon" was close enough to done that I was unlikely to encounter problems. Maybe a bad assumption.

I don't really recall selecting a view setting that was totally unfamiliar.
