In New Outlook, it opens an email when I click on it.

I want to change the setting to double-click. Please help.

It's impossible to find what you described !

Can you post screen shots with different steps ?

I'm not able to find "the option Single click to open items" in my settings...

    This is so annoying.

All I want to do is double click an email and it opens in reading pane, NOT in a new window!!!!

This has only just started happening for me. My wifes Hotmail works as it used to!

Must be a simple fix out there.

Correct, which is why I said that post should be deleted - and in fact it did end up getting deleted after I replied. The option "Single click to open items" does NOT exist. There is no way to make the new outlook work like the old. I reverted back.

I am using Outlook 365 on the desktop, and in the upper right corner there's a toggle switch to "Try the new Outlook" that you can turn on, which I did. After discovering the annoying behavior of not being able to turn off the single click to open, I reverted back. I don't remember if that toggle switch stays exactly there once you upgrade such that you can toggle it back off, but somewhere I found the option to switch back. Here's a video showing the toggle. I think that's what I did, but not switching again just to find out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5D4KI4dSYM
