Thank you, this has been so frustrating, closing an email, then also closed outlook as a whole with this 1 click rubbish!
How to Disable single click to open email in New Outlook?
In New Outlook, it opens an email when I click on it.
I want to change the setting to double-click. Please help.

2024-07-25T15:36:40+00:00 I just found this issue too (now moved to using the web based mail only).
My conclusion so far until they fix it, instead of single click, right click and go direct to the options I was probably after anyway.
I single click because I want to delete/Mark Read something without reading, and found these options are immediately availavle in the right click menu
You can also change the quick clicks to add the "delete" "move" or "flag" option so it is shown when you hover over the message in your inbox, which provides you with the option to just click that icon to delete something, or archive something, without the need to right click. Still hoping they fix this at some point, because I do continue to open a lot of emails that I don't want to open, but this update to the inbox has helped.

At least give option to disable the single click on email opens in viewing pane.

2024-08-26T18:26:20+00:00 I have the same issue. Regarding the "why would you want this different", here are a few of my thoughts.
- Single click does not open an item in most other OS applications (Windows, OSX, Linux, etc.). Single click typically selects an item.
- Often I single click to deselect another email so that the conversation view collapses and I can see more of my messages.
- In addition to #2, I sometimes single click an email so I can see the conversation. This way I get a quick view of the first line of each email so that I can see the topics and quickly select the appropriate email. If an entire email opens when I single click it, it defeats the ability to quickly scan the messages in the conversation.

2024-09-02T16:02:54+00:00 I think this is wildly annoying. Also missing the capability to collapse a view and to move through the mails via arrow keys when reading pane disabled
