I keep getting error code 80070005 when trying add my Office 365 work email account to my personal desktop Office 365 Outlook. Why? It used to work fine until my Windows completed rebooted itself towards the end of last year. My personal gmail and imap accounts continue to work OK. I can access my work email by logging in to the work Office 365 account. But I work from home and need all my emails in one place on my own Office 365 Outlook. I can do this on my iPhone, but can no longer do it on my desktop. Please help.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting on the forum today. I’m Bambi, a user like you and I’ll be happy to assist you.

I’m sorry to hear that you are unable to add your work account to your Outlook desktop app.

The error in the image means that you couldn’t sign in to your Office 365 account because of an access denied issue. The error code is 80070005, and you may need to contact your system administrator with this code if the problem persists.

Since you are trying to add a work account, please contact your IT admin first to find out why this happened. Sometimes access denied happens when an update happens, your admin can give you steps to resolve the issue immediately.

Let me know how that goes.

    Best Regards, Bambi

I have spent some time with IT and they see nothing wrong at their end. I can log in to the work Office Outlook no problem and I can set up the work email on my iPhone. But I work from home for various clients and need all my email accounts to work in one place on my Office Outlook. It all worked fine until my Windows rebooted itself a couple of months ago.

Thanks for your response. This seems like an issue caused by a Windows update. Can you check if your Windows update is up to date? You can find the steps here https://support.microsoft.com/windows/3c5ae7fc-9fb6-9af1-1984-b5e0412c556a

Okay. Kindly try an in-place upgrade. This will fix any software related issues on your computer. Here is a link with illustrations on how to do this https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-to-run-in-place-upgrade-in-windows-11/4d469147-2747-4dcb-88a4-aae9273a4500
