I recently lost the ability to format negative values in excel using parentheses. (format setting: number, currency, etc)
After doing some research, it appeared that this might be due to the "region" settings of my computer, but I verified that it is set to US.
I recently upgraded to Yosemite and believe this is related to the issue.
anyone have any guidance to fix this issue?

There currently is no fix for this problem. If you are affected please send a suggestion to Microsoft asking that they fix this. To display the suggestion form, go to Excel's Help menu and choose the Send Feedback option. The more suggestions, the more likely it is the problem will receive prompt attention.
Jim: thanks for staying with this issue. I will send a suggestion to Microsoft. One question though; is this a fix that Microsoft can make or does it have to come form Apple?
We have no way of knowing... All we are sure of is that the issue has been reported only by those using Yosemite. The same version of Excel works fine with all other versions of OS X & several users have even confirmed that they had no problem on the same Mac before converting to Yosemite.
Anyone know when this will be fixed? There was an update, but the issue still isn't fixed on my end.
Only someone at Microsoft working on Excel would know when there will be a fix. None of us here work at Microsoft, so all we can do is watch and wait.
