Errors were detected while trying to save Excel 2016 16.0.6741

Split from this thread.

Some of my colleagues are facing exactly the same issue.

Error as follows

Clicking continue and saving as a different name also does not work.

We are using Bloomberg Excel add-in on most of the machine with issues, however it is running the latest version.

I tried rolling back Excel 2016 to May build (to see if the issue was introduced in an update), but it also did not resolve the issue.

What solved it for most was to remove Office 2016 and install 64-bit version of Office 2016. Some users are still having some issues, so I guess it did not completely resolve it.

Not sure if others have seen the same issue?

    Hi MSGuy-999,

This issue seems to be caused by the Bloomberg add-in. To test and eliminate the possibility that this third-party Excel add-in is causing an Excel save issue, start Excel in safe mode. To do this, follow these steps:

    1.  Find the shortcut icon for your Office application.

    2.  Press and hold the CTRL key and double-click the Excel shortcut.

    3.  Click Yes when a window appears asking if you want to start the application in Safe Mode>Try to save a new Excel file.

If the file saves correctly, a custom add-in is most likely causing the issue.

This can be because of the interactions with the individual user profile under Windows. You can try deactivating the Bloomberg Add-In in Excel and then reinstall the Add-In. You can check this PDF for the steps.

Note: Steps in the link are for Windows 7 but it should be same for Windows 8 and 10.

As you mentioned, installing 64-bit version of Office 2016 resolved the issue for some users.

    1.  Can you check the Office version of the users whose issue was resolved by installing the 64-bit and compare it with the users who are still facing the issue? To check the version, in Excel, click File>Account > check the exact Office app version, under Product Information, it looks like 16.0.69.65.2066.

    2.  Since when are you facing the issue? After June update or July?

    3.  Can you provide us with exact Office 2016 version?

    Hello,

I have the same problem and I also notice that it is somehow related to the Bloomberg add-in. I am using Office 365 (2016). The problem appeared last week, prior to that there was not any issue. It seems that it is either related to a recent update by Microsoft or Bloomberg, but I cannot figure it out.

When I open excel and try to save a file with lots of Bloomberg formulas, I get the same error message and if I proceed with saving, excel erases all formulas in the workbook. When I open excel again after that, the Bloomberg plug-in does not show in the bar at the top anymore.

One more issue that I noticed, is that excel does not shut down properly and still runs in the background even though the app is closed. When I was reinstalling Bloomberg as a potential remedy to this issue, I had to manually stop the process through the task manager in order to complete the installation process.

I also tried to start excel in safe mode but the error message still appeared. I have not yet tried to install the 64 bit version of Office.

    Regards

    Hi RGQA,

To narrow down the issue, we have to find out if the issue is related to Bloomberg add-in or Microsoft update. First let’s remove the Bloomberg add-in and see if the issue is resolved.

To remove the add-in, follow the steps below:

    1. Open Excel, click File> Options> Add-ins.
    2. At the bottom of the window, select ‘Excel Add-ins’ and click ‘Go’
    3. Uncheck the Bloomberg add-in>OK> exit Excel.

After opening Excel, create a new file and try to save the file, see if you get the error. If you do not receive any error, the issue is related to Bloomberg add-in.

In case, if you still receive the error, this could be related to update, as you suspected. Can you confirm if it is an update related to Excel or complete Office or Windows update? You can check the latest updates installed in control panel.

The Windows Control Panel will open with a list of recently installed updates. You can access this by opening the Control Panel, clicking “Uninstall a program” under Programs, and then clicking “View installed updates” in the sidebar.

This list automatically sorts updates by the date they’re installed on. You can examine this list to see which updates were installed recently, if you’re looking for an update that may have caused problems. You can use the search box at the top-right corner of the window to search for a specific update by its KB number, if you know the exact number of the update.

Additionally, please provide us with the following information:

    1. Please provide us with the screenshot of your Office application version. To check, open any Office application>File>Account, capture the screenshot exactly like below.

           2. If possible, please check with your colleagues to see whether they are getting the error.

           3. Also, let us know the update which was last installed.

    Thanks,

    Neha
