"VALUE" Error Issue

Hi people,

I would like to ask a question regarding the use of Microsoft Excel in Office 365.

Being the middle-man for this issue, a team from the Marketing Department encounters an issue where the value/number is not updated normally like it should be, instead it shows "VALUE" just like in the attachment.

At first, I open all the individual Excel files one-by-one and finally I open the main Excel file. I get 2 errors right after opening the last file (see attachment):

Strangely, only 1 person in the team can edit the Excel file normally meaning it shows an actual number or value after calculation. And that person can also save the file without any issue.

Any help is utterly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

    Hi Syazwan,

I mean that the workbooks you want to open may be refer to PDG_M.SA.xlsx which is stored in SharePoint like the picture below:

Because a #VALUE! error in Excel usually says, "There's something wrong with the way your formula is typed. Or, there's something wrong with the cells you are referencing." The latter reason is more suitable for your situation according to the error message. (Although you have that file saved locally, the fomula still referrs to the file saved in SharePoint.)

If the users in Marketing team encounter the same error message, please contact the site admin to check the permission of those files and confirm whether he has made some changes for that site.

    Regards,

    Zixuan

I have confirmed the error messages again. According to it, what you want to open is a file workbook "PDG_M.SA.xlsx" which is stored in SharePoint. Compared to the files list you provided, there isn't this file. Thus, I think maybe some files you have saved in your local computer have referred to that file in the formula. If so, this issue may be related to you don't have permission to access that file.

You may do the following steps to confirm:

1.Sign out Excel, then let the that Marketing user sign in your Excel with his work account to test.

2.Contact the admin of that site which PDG_M.SA.xlsx is stored in, please check whether your work account has permission to access that workbook.

    Regards,

    Zixuan

Do you mean that "PDG_M.SA.xlsx" file should be opened as well in order to solve the error? Because the Marketing user only gave me the files like in the attached screenshot earlier. In fact, the Marketing user and I encounter the exactly the same error even he and I were using our own Office accounts on our own PCs respectively.

    Note:

My other IT colleague told me that those Excel files were initially created and saved locally by the Marketing user's team lead. Afterwards, the team lead uploaded the files on SharePoint. Only then the team lead shares them to the Marketing team. Previously, the user can open the files normally but for the past few weeks the error shows up.

    Sorry for the little information.

    Regards.

According to the screenshot of the error message, the file you want to open should be stored in SharePoint site. It maybe not a simple local file. Thus, I provided some suggestions and asked some questions in my first reply.

To further investigate this behavior, we might need more information:

1.How do you get the files? Download from SharePoint sites or receive from others?

2.How many workbooks are there? Are there any connections between them, or are they independent?

3.For the Marketing user who accesses those files from a pen drive, can you access the files with his pen drive?

    Regards,

    Zixuan

    ANSWERS:

    1. The Excel files are from pendrive as the Marketing user said. Do I need to ask him to acknowledge where the files originated?

As u can see, there 7 secondary files and 1 main file (Sales2Collection Tracking). They are connected.

    1. When I open those files in my PC, I get the same error like the user.

    Thanks for the reply!

    Regards.
