Today I lost access to all my accounts/codes stored in the Authenticator app. When I click "Start Recovery" I get a message "There is no backup stored in your iCloud account". I had backup turned on before switching to a new phone and I was able to get recovery from backups in the past. Is there a way to check if a backup exists? Where it is stored in iCloud?

I have the equivalent problem on Android. Wonderful Christmas present. Not.
Curiously difficult to find this thread through Bing. One of the first hits through Google.

Can't find any explanation or simple recovery. It's obviously not a new bug.

Same thing just happened to me. A cursory glance through this list doesnt seem to reveal a solution or answer.
This is utterly ridiculous and a MASSIVE inconvenience.
2FA improves passwords. so what improves upon 2fa?!

Same problem here, Opened the app on my iPad and android phone and all passwords and addresses were gone. Couldn’t recover them. Luckily I have a 1password back up. The Authenticator app is seriously unreliable and I’m worried about how secure it is now as I’ve no idea where my password data has gone. I’ll be migrating full time to one password and keychain.

I have this problem, too. What a disaster! I can't so far find a way to recreate these profiles except for the Microsoft one. This needs a workaround. I have accounts I can't log into.

I have the same problem. The access to all accounts has been lost. MS Authenticator failed to restore from the backup.
Lesson learned: do not use anything of Microsoft when it comes to security !

Same here. Lost Firefox, Discord, Steam, and a few others. Thankfully I had another device logged into Discord, and Steam was able to send me 2FA via text as a workaround but I've simply lost my Mozilla account. Gone. Thanks, Microsoft. Cloud backups disappeared overnight and who knows where they went.
Moving to Authy and Google Authenticator. Also, tips for anyone suffering from this. I recommend attaching any 2FA code to multiple authenticator apps! (Just scan the QR code with multiple apps before hitting "done" if you can)

Stupid Microsoft. I lost access to my Tesla and can't drive my car ... I got a new iPhone today, tried logging into my Tesla app but the stupid f*cking Microsoft Authenticator didn't save my Tesla account so now I can't drive my car. WTF Microsoft

Recently had the same problem and no signs of being able to recover my accounts yet. Had to log out of an app for a bit, then tried to log back on and needed a verification code. I open up the authenticator app and everything's gone and now my account is inaccessible because the support teams for both Microsoft and the other one are complete trash.
