text highlight color keystroke

I am using the newest Word. I am trying to create a macro that would highlight text and make the text highlighted with green highlight. I know to press CTRL+ALT+H to highlight the text and that keyboard combo will highlight the text with color. However it will not let me choose what color I want the text highlight I want it to be. The first time I use it with the CTRL+ALT+H, I will get a random color. It will stay the same color each time I do CTRL+ALT+H until I manually change it. To change it, I have to click the text highlight and then click the green color. Then from then on, it will highlight the text in green. That is fine but yet it is not. If I use a different color in a different doc or in this form, I have to remember to switch it back. That defeats the purpose of the macro. Is there a way to activate the color menu using keyboard where I can use the arrow key and select the color?

Thank you for your time.

    Hello,

Can you use shading rather than highlighting? Shading is more amenable to vba manipulation, in my experience. You can definitely pick the color, either standard or custom.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if you have any more questions or require further help.

    Regards

You can create a macro with a keyboard shortcut that will work in all Word documents. Turn on the Developer tab. Type some text and select some text. Click Record Macro. Click Keyboard. For "Press New Keyboard shortcut" I used CTRL + SHIFT + Q. Click Assign then Close. Now go to the Home tab. The text should still be selected by the way. Click the Highlight arrow and pick Green. Go back to Developer and Stop Recording. Start a new document. Type some text. Select the text. Try CTRL + SHIFT + Q.

Thanks for your reply. I am not sure what the difference is between shading and highlighting. To understand what I am trying to accomplish, I will state what I am doing

I take notes from my pastor's teachings. I store the notes in the cloud. I am usually rushed when I sit down for the lesson because I set the church recording up before service.  When I turn my laptop on, I have to open my Olive Tree bible software, then open Word, then open the notes. I then type the following

Date (such as May 14, 18) I like to highlight the date in green so it stands out

    Lesson # (such as 3722)

    The notes of the teachings.

I am writing a macro express pro that will open the bible software, open the notes, input the date (and highlight it green) and type Lesson. All I have to do then is type the lesson number and the notes. I like the date to be green so it will easily be seen from the notes.

Thank you for the reply. If I create a macro would it also record the text that I am typing? The text would change each lesson. I have a macro that inputs the date. If I highlight that macro and make this macro, would that work?

You can use green shading rather than green highlighting and get the same color result. I am not familiar with macro express pro. Shading is shown on the Home tab in the Paragraph group rather than the Font group. See screenshot.
