Check Document doesn't check grammar

With the new update, when I "Check Document" in word, it only checks spelling and not grammar.  It will not check grammar unless you have "check grammar as you type as an option".   I don't want to check grammar as I type, I just want to check it when I'm done.  I assumed - shame on me I guess - that "Check Document" would check both spelling and grammar.  How do I get it to check grammar without having the "check grammar as you type option on?"  Thanks

    Hi RennieFLG,

Please refer to the article below:

How to turn off automatic spelling checking and automatic grammar checking in Office programs?

    According to the article,

Clear the Mark grammar errors as you type check box before you finish typing.

Click on the Mark grammar errors as you type check box when you are complete.

    Regards,

    Gloria

Hi Gloria - I apologize but I guess I wasn't clear.  And now I have realized that after the recent update, the Spell and Grammar checking are not working correctly at all.  Here is the issue and I have the below screen shots showing it.

In Options/ Proofing with both "Check spelling as you type" and "Mark Grammar errors as you typed" UNCHECKED, when you want to check your document and go to the "Review" menu tab and click, "ABC Check Document" it finds zero errors even though it is filled with spelling and grammar errors.  SO

The ONLY way the "ABC Check Document" works is if you go to Options/ Proofing with both "Check spelling as you type" and "Mark Grammar errors as you typed" and CHECK those boxes.  Which checks errors as you type, so no need to go to "Review" menu tab and click, "ABC Check Document".  But if you do click "ABC Check Document" it does find the same errors it finds while you are typing.  BUT

The grammar checker is absolutely not working.  NOTE, I have ALL the Grammar Settings boxes checked in Options/ Proofing "Writing Style" / Grammar.

I type this sentence, "this is a tst of spelt checkers ability for they to find lots a grammers type in this sentence.  Jack and Jill pull they're pale of water up it's hill.  Its to bad that word doesnt catch all of these mistakes."  It found ONLY ONE Grammar ERROR in that sentence!  Just "these mistake".   And when I click "Review" menu tab and click, "ABC Check Document"  It still only finds the the one Grammar error.  SO

    (1) Something is terribly wrong with grammar check and it appears to be useless, AND

    (2)  The only way the Review" menu tab and click, "ABC Check Document" function works is IF both "Check spelling as you type" and "Mark Grammar errors as you typed" are CHECKED in Options/ Proofing, which renders the function useless.

AGAIN, this issue has appeared as of the last update when Microsoft for some reason re-designed the Spell Checker/ Grammar Checker (which wasn't broken).

I hope I explained this issue correctly as this is a major issue.  But please let me know if you need more info.

I will post screen shots in new reply.  Please Advise

Select one of the incorrect words and go to the Language dialog to see whether "Do not check spelling or grammar" is checked for the selection. That's the usual problem. If so, select the entire document and clear that check box.

Thank you, but no that was not the cause, the "do not check spelling or grammar" was not checked.  Additional info:

This only applies to the recent update where Microsoft re-designed the Editor.

The spell checker works only if "check spelling as you type" is checked.   Running a spell check without that being checked finds zero errors. So the "ABC Check Document" does not work.

HOWEVER, the bigger problem is the grammar checking, which does not appear to work at all even with "mark grammar errors as you type" checked.

I typed in the following sentences and no grammar errors were were found:

Jack and Jill went up the hill to fills a pale of water.

Its about time the wake up and smell the coffee.

When they got hear, the music was so loud they couldn’t here.

When I click on "Check Document" again no grammar errors are found.

I tried it on two other computers which were recently updated that now have the new Editor and no errors were found.

However, when I typed these sentences into one computer that had not been updated and used the old Editor, all the errors were found.

Does anyone else who recently update have this issue?  Can someone try typing in these sentences and see what they get?  Hope this helps and thanks for trying to isolate the issue.  I will post a screenshot.
