Conditional Formatting Font Color Not Working

I am trying to conditionally format my data in Office 365 Excel.  It will not allow me to change the font color in custom mode.

The dialogue box below comes up when I select Custom Format.  There is not a way for me to change the font other than font style.  It appears that there is other formatting on the cells, but I have tried to remove all previous formatting beforehand and it still gives me this.  If I select the color drop-down, it looks like it will allow  me to change, but when I select a color it reverts back to automatic.

I've tried selecting color by keyboard and by mouse.  Neither one works.  No conditional formatting.  And High Contract is turned off.  Anyone else having this issue?  It just started about 3 days ago.  Before that, it was working perfectly.

    Thank you Les,

I am so happy for this answer that I actually took the time to find my Microsoft account password to write a thank you. I have never done that before.

I am doing various save-as's from a massive and complex spreadsheet and every time I create a new version different colors could not be selected with conditional formatting. So that means my spreadsheets were forced to all look different, which makes me (as an MBA professional engineer) look pretty incompetent, like I don't know how to use a spreadsheet. Now who's laughing!!!!!

    TimGaero,

Pleased that you found a workaround solution here but it's so sad that Microsoft is so big that at best they can just ignore us like an annoying fly (for how long?) or at worst swat us with insulting comments like how to use the function (if it worked) and it's limitations, treating us all like incompetent, illiterate fools.  Microsoft - Microcare!
