Insert Comment option is missing from right-click menu

I am using Excel 2016 on Windows 10. Today, the "Insert comment" option disappeared from the right-click pop-up context menu. When I right-click on a cell with no comment, there is no option to add one. If I right-click on a cell with a comment, I can edit or delete the comment. On the Insert tab of the ribbon, the Comments section is grayed out. This problem is affecting all spreadsheets that I have tried.

I googled the problem and tried every solution offered but none of them worked. How can I add comments to cells again?

Thank you

You need to right click the cell and then check on edit objects and edit scenarios before protecting the cells you want to protect.

    Hi!

I just have the same issue today... However, I just noticed that there was this [Group] just after the file name (on top of the file that shows the file name that you are working at) and it means that you selected more than 1 tab on that worksheet. Not sure how did it happen (maybe by accident) and it was saved just liked that without me noticing it. Not sure if it is the same issue with you but you might want to check if that is the case and just ungroup those tabs

Hope this helps... Stay safe everyone... :)

I too have this problem - even today 4th Nov 2020.

It is very convenient to use right click than remembering the function keys.

    Please resolve the issue.

    Thank you.

Shift +F2 doesn't work for my 2019 Microsoft.   Super frustrating to not have a consistent way for a work around.   I've been using MS Office for 15 years+ and the no comment option started happening about 2 months ago.  Super frustrating.  as I'm an avid user of tables and comments.
