Insert Comment option is missing from right-click menu

I am using Excel 2016 on Windows 10. Today, the "Insert comment" option disappeared from the right-click pop-up context menu. When I right-click on a cell with no comment, there is no option to add one. If I right-click on a cell with a comment, I can edit or delete the comment. On the Insert tab of the ribbon, the Comments section is grayed out. This problem is affecting all spreadsheets that I have tried.

I googled the problem and tried every solution offered but none of them worked. How can I add comments to cells again?

Thank you

Where is the insert comment in the right-click context menu?  I've used that daily for decades for work.  I don't want to hit Shift-F2...Please bring it back!!

Granted it's a little bit inconvenient and a little bit rubbish, but it's hardly the end of the world to have to click two keys!  Some people don't have computers or jobs so perhaps learn to put up with it!

I checked up on some other forums which suggested enrolling onto Microsoft's updates (earlier than others get them I think).  I was told that after some days or weeks, the function would mysteriously be reinstated.  After a few weeks that is precisely what happened.

Thank goodness as I use this function multiple times a day, and yes the elimination of one extra click does matter.

One minute, the insert comment feature was working, and the next it disappeared. It doesn't seem to be a problem with a new spreadsheet. Just an existing one. Very frustrating.

In Excel 2019, I believe the right-click option you are looking for is "New note" instead of "Insert comment".
