Excel: If value in column X is same, then go to column Y and say if dates are diff or same (for both)

Hello.

I am struggling with the last part of this file.

Please help.

If the serial number in column D is the same, then go to column J and tell me if the dates are different.  If yes, I want in column R to be SAME or DIFFERENT for the serial numbers.

So....example: row 28 and 29 in column R, it would say in both DIFFERENT (in both rows, column R).

Any help? At least maybe guide me in the direction of function?

Thank you

    Hi Geo

Please try this formula in cell R4 =IF(AND(B4>1,J4<>J3),"DIFFERENT","SAME")

    Note:

    * As per your pictures your table is sorted by serial numbers, also you use helpers columns B and C

to identify if Item is repeated. So in the formula we use helper column B** Also since table is sorted first data row (in this case row 3) always be a 1 in helper column B so

that's the reason to leave empty cell R3.

*** So insert formula in cell R4 and drag down.

Hope this formula will help you

    Hi Geo,

First, I need to admit that I am not an expert in Excel formula. The following formula couldn’t fulfill what you requested perfectly,  but I hope it could give you an inspiration or direction somehow:

    Hello Alex.

Much appreciate the response and image back. Regretfully, that isn't the solution. I entered it to just check, but I am getting blanks.

I am having a total mind block. I am looking for a more aggressive function that will ensure all rows have a 'value' as a result of the formula.

Thanks Alex, much appreciate your reply.

    Hi Geo,

If you are OK with a VBA method on this one, I could move your thread to the related category, where you could receive helps from formula and VBA experts.

Let me know if you are willing to do so.

    Regards,

    Alex Chen

    Hello Alex.

I don't know VBA. Thanks for offering.

I am a bit confused on 24 views and nothing.  Is my question so difficult? I have asked much more complex and got responses.

I just need someone to tell me the function and I will find the solution.

    Thanks for offering.
