Authentication Error for non-browser sign in Power Query via Web

Hi all,

I'm trying to connect to an Excel workbook within my SharePoint Online library, which I can access via my normal credentials and can sign on to my account via non-browser when I go to File -> Account.

However, the system asks for my credentials again when I am in Excel and click on Data -> Get Data -> From Web and put in the URL address of the file and click on "Organisational Account".

It then freezes the authentication window without the ability to reenter the details.

Above is the initial sign-in page. Note that the account is already signed in the top right corner in the same tenancy. However, this screen suggests that I'm not signed in and when I click on Sign In to do so, I get the below screen.

The above is the hung up authentication screen when I click on "Sign In"

I have:

  1. Restarted the app.
  2. Checked credentials in that they can log in to the environment.
  3. That I have file permission.
  4. Done a repair install.
  5. Removed all Microsoft Office Authentication settings within the Registry.
  6. Tried to log in through my phone's hotspot in case it was a firewall issue (it's not).

I still have the same issue.

    Hi Robert,

Thanks for the updates. I think I missed out one important thing about add-ins. Apologize for that. Have you tried to remove the add-ins from Office add-ins store if there is any? You can remove them by Insert tab > My add-ins> click on three dots for more option and remove.

More importantly, did you give a shot on Windows clean boot according to my pervious reply? How is the result?

In addition, try to clear the Global permission for Power Query in Excel and see the outcomes.

You can go to Data tab > Get Data> Data source settings > Clear all permissions to remove all permissions.

    Best regards,

    Dihao

    Hi,

I am part of an organisation and was assisting someone with importing and got the same error. Froze and couldnt do anything other than task manager end the task of excel.

I tested on my own device and had absolutely no issue in getting the exact same document they tried in the exact same spot in sharepoint they wanted it to go. No login prompt at all, just went straight to asking which cells I wanted to import. I am an admin on my own laptop and they are not but if the file and upload site is the same would that even matter?

    Thanks
