Sharepoint online cannot change content type from folder

Hello

Up until a couple of months ago, we were able to change content-type of folder to a customised folder. We are no longer able to do this, content-type is not even showing in the details pane any more, it used to be.

These SharePoint sites are all created as a result of creating Teams.

We have allow management of content-types set to yes at the library level for all of these sites.

Does anyone know if there has been a setting changed that would have caused this and how to rectify this?

We are desperate to fix this, if anyone knows the answer, that would be fantastic.

Thanks for your help.

    Hi Terry,

The 1111 folder is created as a customized folder, instead of the standard folder. And I can switch it to the standard folder.

And I cannot change the content type of a standard folder on my side, the Content Type property would not be displayed.

    Best regards,

    Madoc

    Hi Terry and Madoc,

I just wan't to jump in here to add some details.

As Terry describe this used to work, I've been using this alot to change "Folder" content type to "Document Set" content type in the past. But today when I need to do it again, the option is now gone, even trying to change content type using PnP is not working.

The intresting part is that if I create a new folde of type "Document Set", I can change it to "Folder", but I cannot change it back.

This is super weird, I've created a support ticket, I'll get back with details if we figure out why..

    Cheers

This is happening to me as well. In a Document Library, I have my custom content types added. If I use the New+ button and create a custom folder then I have access to the Content Type in the properties pane. As soon as you change this to Folder the option to change it is gone.

This is also stopping new flows in Power Automate from updating the Content Type in the file properties action.

Any flow created pre February 2020 still seems to be able to update the Content Type.

Folder made using the +New button allows you to change the Content Type in the properties pane

All custom folder content types are available to select. After you select Folder (standard) the Content Type property is no longer available, and there is no way to change the content type.
