Duplicate a Microsoft List with content/data?

Hello,

With the new Mircosoft Lists, I see that we can create a template based on an existing List. When we create a new List based off of the template, we get the same formatting and column headings. That is great.

However, we would like to be able to duplicate an entire List, including the content/data.

How can one duplicate a Microsoft List including the data?

    Hi Sammatz,

Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the community, I'm glad to offer help.

To copy a list including the list contents, you can follow the following steps:

    1. Open the source list > Export to Excel.
    2. Open the exported *.iqy file > import it as a table > save the workbook as *.xlsx file.
    3. Go to Microsoft Lists > New list > From Excel > upload the saved workbook (*.xlsx).
    4. Edit the data and create the duplicate list. (You can delete the last two columns ("Item Type" & "Path") after creating the list)

Hope the above suggestion can be helpful, and please feel free to let me know if you have any concerns, I'll continue to help you.

    Best Regards,

    Arck

In case anyone is still working on this. I will attach a screen shot.

I have created several Lists and labeled them as template. I don't include any data into these Lists. I only format them. Once I want to make a list from that template I simply go to "New Lists" and select "From Existing List".

Screen shot below. Hope this helps

This copies over my entire list including formatting. I can pick a list from My Lists or from a SharePoint group set of lists.

Yes, but is it possible to copy over the entire list and the contents instead of just the formatting. When I try this it only copies the formatted columns but the list itself is blank. It seems there's a missing function to just be able to copy or duplicate a list within Microsoft list without having to export files as tables, etc. Highly frustrating.

    Hi there,

I've tried everything in this thread, and I still haven't found a solution. I'm using Lists to create an onboarding template to use with all new employees. I would like to create a flushed out plan, and create copies for each new employees, which include each work item previously created.

Has anyone figured out how to do this?

    Thanks!

Yes - I posted how we do it above:

    Simplest option:

List settings > save list as template (include content) > add an app > select template.

Downside is the pathetic size limitation.
