Thousand separator NOT WORKING on Excel for Mac 16.62 - Monterey 12.4

I am really, REALLY tired of trying to find a solution for this.

My Excel for Mac doesn't recognize my regional settings. I've tried EVERYTHING available on the internet, and even spent 1+ hour with MS support on chat trying to fix my issue.

My region is set to United States (Custom), with the thousand separator being comma and decimal dot.

However, when I try to format something on Excel, this happens.

I work in finance so number formats are KEY to build effective spreadsheets and financial models. I'm hopeless.

I've tried:

  • Changing the region
  • Reinstalling MS Office 365
  • Booting on safe mode
  • Deleting plist and stuff
  • Changing the region through terminal

NONE of the above have solved the problem.

If someone has any advice I'd appreciate.

    Dear Leonardo,

    Thanks for posting back.

Normally, when you change the settings in Language & Region, then restart Mac, the thousand separator in Excel will be changed. As you mentioned you have reinstalled Office, I would like to know how you uninstalled Office. If you moved Office applications to Trash, then reinstalled Office. Please try to completely uninstalled Office, then check if the situation still happens.

We look forward to your response. Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,
