Hello,

We need to configure custom domain for Azure AD B2C. The default one is <tenant-name>.b2clogin.com, and we prefer to make it into accounts.companyname.com

We search around and find out we can do it by using Azure Front Door. Besides the domain customization, Azure Front Door might provide a lot of other features.

However, we might need only feature of domain customization by now. And it seems to be kinda wasteful in respect of paying the fee but not taking advantage of many features.

We are thinking whether we could have any different way to custom Azure domain without Azure Front Door? If no, can you please tell us which pricing scheme of Azure Front Door works efficiently for us while our main purpose is just to custom domain ? Many thanks for your feedbacks.

Hi @Tammy Tran • Thank you for reaching out.

As of now custom domain feature in Azure AD B2C is only compliant with Azure Front Door, because it supports hostname rewrite in the cookies. If you try to use any other feature like CDN or a just a CName record for B2C custom domain, it will fail, as the hostname in the cookies won't be not rewritten and navigation between B2C pages would fail due to hostname mismatch in the cookies. Which is why B2C custom domain functionality currently works only with Azure Front Door.

You may post your feedback regarding this at out Product Feedback portal, which is monitored by the product team for product enhancement.

Since you just want to use Custom domain feature of Azure Front Door, you may choose to go with any pricing tier because both standard and premium tiers support custom domain. Please refer to the feature comparison here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/frontdoor/standard-premium/tier-comparison#feature-comparison
