Macros not working from network location

Hello all,

I have some users that use macros on their excel documents that are saved on one of our internal file servers. I have added the network location to the trusted locations however when the user opens the file it says "Microsoft has blocked macros from running because the source of this file is untrusted. I have tried adding the parent folder and selecting the apply to subfolders check box and the exact folder location but no matter what it will not allow the user to run the macros properly.

Note: This was working for the user prior to getting a new windows 11 PC but the version of office 365 was the same from computer to computer.

We are using a home version of Office 365 because this is a small office and the family plan made more financial sense the going the business route.

New HP computer with plenty of resources running windows 11.

Please help any suggestions are welcome I am at a wall with my google searches and prior knowledge of office.

Same Issue here, just found out it works when opening file using the UNC path but not when accessing via mapped drive.

I tried to remap the drive to see if that would now work and no luck but UNC path still works.

When I checked the info section of the file, Excel detects the file to have came from internet and does not identify the drive as full file path and location is just shown as drive letter e.g. U:>Folder name> instead of \server-name\Folder name

Any clue around how to fix this?

It's a bit counterintuitive but this worked for me. Instead of "Enable VBA macros" select "Disable VBA Macros except digitally signed macros".

    Hope that works for you.

Similar situation here but adding the location into Trusted Sites within Internet Options (rather than in the Excel policy) has worked for me. However, this has opened up the whole file://*.company.net rather than the specified share file://company.net/share$

Any other suggestions for locking it down? These macro based files can be located anywhere within that share so we can't pinpoint them but this doesn't feel ideal.

I do not believe these are signed nor do I wish to go through and figure out how to digitally sign all his documents that would require it.
