It seems that the add-in "Acrobatexceladdin" is the problem (for me).
No more error for me after i disabled that under Tools -> Excel Add-ins...

I updated Excel for Mac (365) yesterday. I now get a pop up that says:
Visual Basic for Applications
Run-time error '1004':
Method 'Name" of object 'Addin' failed.
Help End
When I click End, Excel seems to work ok, but I'm not sure whether this VB error will cause problems with my complex spreadsheets.
It seems the update either (a) has a bug, or (b) didn't load correctly (although it verified itself before opening after the update).
How can I delete Excel and re-download it?
Thanks

Same here. Problem began after a recent update to Excel 365 for Mac, and the warning appeared every time I opened Excel by clicking on a spreadsheet in Finder. I did not try starting Excel from the Launchpad and then opening a spreadsheet, which would have been a useful test.
Following the suggestion in this thread I disabled the "Acrobatexceladdin" by unchecking the box found under Excel's Tools>Excel Add-ins and restarting Excel. Spreadsheets now open without error.
We're all pointing to the Excel update, but I suppose it's also possible that Acrobat slipped in a bad update to its add-in. I'll let the Microsoft programmers sort this one out.
Does anyone know what the Acrobat add-in is supposed to do for the user? Is there a reason I would want it?

I just did the same thing, disabled "Acrobatexceladdin" and the 1004 error is now gone!
