Embedding Third-Party Adaptive Card loop Components in Microsoft Loop: Unfurling Issues

Is it currently possible to embed third-party adaptive card–based Loop components directly on a Loop page?

Here’s the context of what I’ve tried so far:

I was able to embed adaptive card–based Loop components successfully in Microsoft Teams chat using link unfurling.

However, when I try the same logic on a Loop page, it doesn’t work as expected — the unfurling only shows a simple thumbnail card, not an interactive Loop component.

I even tried copying the unfurled Loop component from Teams chat (using the copy option on the top right) and pasting it into a Loop page, but again it just shows as a static thumbnail card instead of an interactive component.

Additionally, I have a related question regarding file creation:

When creating a third-party adaptive card Loop component (for example, a JIRA link that unfurls into an interactive component in Teams), no .loop file appears to be created in SharePoint.

My understanding is that if it is truly a Loop component, there should be a .loop file backing it. Is this assumption correct? Or are third-party Loop components handled differently and do not generate a .loop file at all?

Could you clarify:

Whether third-party adaptive card–based Loop components can be embedded natively on Loop pages.

  1. Whether a .loop file is expected to be created for such components, or if they are treated differently compared to first-party Loop components. Dear @Abhinav Vaishnav,

I appreciate your post to Microsoft Q&A Forum.

Thank you for your thoughtful questions regarding the behavior of third-party Adaptive Card–based Loop components within Microsoft Loop. I’ve reviewed your observations and would like to provide some information based on current Microsoft documentation and platform capabilities:

1.Embedding Third-Party Loop components on Loop pages:

After reviewing the behavior and available documentation, I’d like to provide my insights about the difference you're seeing is due to how Microsoft Teams and the Loop app handle these components:

  • In Teams, Adaptive Card–based Loop components are designed to be interactive. Teams provides the necessary rendering and action framework to support live updates and collaboration directly within the chat interface.
  • In contrast, you encountered this issue when pasted into a Loop page, they appear as static thumbnail cards. At first, I had an idea that it may be a bug. So, I did my research in all material documents from Microsoft. However, I have not found any official documentation confirming support for full interactivity in Loop pages. Therefore, it may be a platform limitation, not a bug. Since Loop is still evolving, I highly recommend raising this as feedback to Microsoft about this issue in the Loop app via Microsoft Feedback Portal. It could help prioritize broader support for third-party integrations in future updates.
  1. File creation and .loop file association:

First-party Loop components (e.g., task lists, tables) are backed by .loop files stored in OneDrive or SharePoint. These files enable persistence and collaboration across Microsoft 365 apps.  In contrast, third-party Adaptive Card–based Loop components do not generate .loop files. Instead, they are rendered dynamically using metadata (such as webUrl) and are not treated as standalone Loop files. This design allows third-party components to be portable and context-aware, but they are not persisted in SharePoint as Loop files. You can take a look in here: Overview of Loop components in the Microsoft 365 ecosystem | Microsoft Learn

Besides that, I found this blogs that may be related to your concern and I think it can help you in this feature, you can consult in here: Microsoft Loop transforms the way developer teams work

As a Microsoft Q&A moderator, my role is to guide discussions and connect users with helpful resources. While I don’t have access to individual account or your environment in order to assist deeply for you, but I still try my best to support you using the resources available. So, I highly recommend that you should raise your voice in this issue via Microsoft Feedback portal. The more users report an issue, the higher the chance it gets addressed in future updates.

Wish you a pleasant day!
