I am missing pages from my OneNote.

I was looking at a page this morning and later could not find at all. I called my company's help desk and they looked at the recycle bin, previous versions, etc with no luck.

What I do notice is that the last modified date of the Section is 10/22/2025, however I created this page on 10/30/2025. The restore points only go back to 10/31/2025.

I searched for other question/answers and have tried the troubleshooting tips with no luck:

  • Open your Notebook and check the Notebook Recycle Bin. nothing in recycle bin
  • Use the search function if you know a word or two on the missing pages. no results
  • Check Recent Edits to see if the page was edited recently. recent edits are all prior to the pager missing
  • Check Page Versions to see if there are past versions of the page.
page versions are also prior to the date of the missing page
  • Check Misplaced Sections to see if the page was moved to another section.
All other sections also have a modified date prior to the creation of the page
  • Check Backups to see if the page was backed up.
again, also all dates prior to the creation of the page
  • Search for OneNote notebooks.
    no results.

    Hi @Choi Christin

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Thank you for reaching out and providing those details.

The issue that we are focusing on is a OneNote page you created on October 30, 2025, that is now missing from your notebook.

Thank you for already checking Recycle Bin, Search, Recent Edits, Page Versions, Misplaced Sections, Backups, and searching across notebooks. Since those did not surface the page, the next steps below are designed to suit your situation and go deeper into the specific causes that can hide or remove pages, along with precise ways to recover them.

OneNote saves content to the cloud only after a successful sync. If a page was created while the device was offline, signed into a different account, or if the local cache was cleared before the page finished syncing, that page may not appear in the notebook or standard recovery locations. A section “last modified” date being earlier than the page creation date often points to the page having been added in a different location or account, or never completing a sync to that section.

Please share the details below to help us pinpoint the exact path for recovery.

    • Notebook name and where it is stored OneDrive for Business, SharePoint site, or personal OneDrive
    • The app and device used when the page was created OneNote desktop 2016, OneNote for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android
    • Whether multiple Microsoft accounts are used on any device
    • A screenshot of the OneNote sync status window File, Info, View Sync Status
    • A link from “Copy Link to Page” for any nearby page in the same section this includes the notebook and section identifiers that help us trace the location
    • Any recent device maintenance activities such as signing out of OneNote, clearing Office cache, reinstalling apps, or profile resets between October 30 and October 31

In the meantime, below are steps you can follow to attempt recovery and prevent this from happening again:

1/ Begin by opening the notebook in OneNote for the web and comparing the sections for consistency.

    • The web view can show pages that the desktop app has not yet synced or cached.
    • Browse every section and any section groups such as “Quick Notes” or “Unfiled Notes”.

2/ Proceed by forcing a full sync from OneNote on your desktop.

    • In OneNote for Windows, go to File, Info, View Sync Status.
    • Select Sync Now for the notebook and expand to view sync status per section.

    User's image

    • If errors appear, resolve them and recheck the sections and “Misplaced Sections”.

3/ Then, confirm synchronization by checking the notebook on multiple devices and platforms.”

    • If you edited the notebook on more than one device, check each device with the same account.
    • Check both the OneNote desktop app and the OneNote for Windows app because they keep separate caches.
    • Look for any “Conflicts” pages that can appear when multiple edits happen without a completed sync.

4/ For a more efficient resolution, we recommend using your administrator account or contacting your IT administrator to submit a support request directly to Microsoft Support Teams.

They can raise a support ticket by visiting: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn
